Spinach and Strawberry Salad

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2009
Awesome salad! This was one of my favorite recipes for our Thanksgiving meal. I've had it before at my sister-in-law's house and thought it was really good. I followed another's advice and added part sugar, part honey; let it sit on counter (never refrigerated); and what really made it were the candied sliced almonds! Absolutely loved it and everyone at the table raved!

Italian Cream Cheese and Ricotta Cheesecake

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2009
Everyone loved this cheesecake! I've been looking for a good ricotta cheese recipe and now I've found it! It wasn't too heavy nor too light - just right! I followed others' advice and wrapped the bottom of the springform pan w/foil and baked it in about a 1-inch water bath. Baked 1 hour, and then let sit in oven (without opening) for another 2 1/2 hours. Cooled on counter for another 1 1/2 hours, then refrigerated overnight. My daughter helped me top it with fresh blueberries and sliced strawberries. I've tried many cheesecake recipes and we all really liked this one.

Deep Fried Turkey Rub

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2009
We made this recipe for one turkey for Thanksgiving and roasted another. Everyone really liked this one better. Although, I would still do both because the roasted one will provide the gravy and leftovers. Last year we brined our fried turkey the night before. I prefer this recipe (tasted great and less mess). We have quite a bit of leftover rub that I will keep for perhaps a fried chicken. We also injected with creole butter prior to frying. Delicious - not too spicy and not greasy at all! Even the kids loved it.

Italian Sausage, Peppers, and Onions

Reviewed: Mar. 24, 2009
I usually make sausage and peppers with a tomato sauce, which I enjoy over pasta. This was a really nice change - especially if you like to eat it on italian rolls. We enjoyed it a lot. I think I did 4x the recipe though so I could freeze it for later. If you are going through the trouble of making it, why not make more?

Chicken Tortilla Soup I

Reviewed: Jan. 14, 2009
I loved this soup! I made my own stock with a leftover chicken carcass. I added boneless breasts for more meat. I didn't cook the chicken with the garlic, but added the garlic to the broth. Other than that, the only things I did differently were to add a can of rinsed black beans and chopped cilantro. Delicious and easy with most items already in pantry. Update: so sorry, I rated this one by mistake. It should've been for the Chicken Tortilla Soup V recipe. They are similar so I'll try this one too since it looks good.

Grilled Lemon Chicken

Reviewed: Aug. 21, 2008
I made this yesterday for a family BBQ. I marinated the chicken all day. It turned out wonderful - so moist and juicy!! This is definitely a keeper! Note: it took quite a few lemons.

I love this recipe and make it all the time. The only thing I do different is add walnuts.

Authentic German Potato Salad

Finally a good german potato salad recipe! We had it for a family picnic and everyone really enjoyed it. Nice change from the eggs and mayo one I usually make.

Wisconsin Bratwurst

Reviewed: Aug. 24, 2006
I don't really like bratwurst but these were very good. We had relatives in from Wisconsin and they really enjoyed them too. They said the bratwurst was just like at home. After grilling them, we served them on rolls with the onions and juice on top.

Carol's Chicken Salad

Reviewed: Mar. 7, 2006
This is the best chicken salad I've ever had and I'm very picky about my chicken salad! I cooked split chicken breasts with chicken broth & seasonings first. The only thing I changed in the recipe was not using as much poultry seasoning and used red grapes. The water chestnuts and swiss cheese really make it, but you don't taste them specifically in the recipe. Awesome! I served it on croissants.

Easy Stroganoff

Reviewed: Mar. 7, 2006
I can't believe this recipe received such high reviews! That is why I made it, but it turned out really bland. My family and I didn't like it at all. I usually trust the ratings on this website, but not for this recipe....sorry!

Absolutely Best Brownies

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2005
This was the first homemade brownie recipe that I tried. Very Good, but I didn't have a comparison. I made according to directions (used butter and all-purpose flour). I doubled the recipe and put into 13x9 pan for 25 minutes. They were quickly gobbled up!

Banana Pudding IV

Reviewed: May 29, 2004
This was VERY well-liked at the two occasions I served it! I made the recipe pretty much as it is written. I did dip the bananas in a bowl with a waterlemon juice mixture first so they wouldn't turn brown. I used Neufatchel (sp?) instead of regular cream cheese and I used the Extra creamy Cool Whip. I served it in a large glass punch bowl, so I doubled the layers. Crushed a few of the wafers and sprinkled on top. It was Heavenly!

Easy Fruit Dip

Reviewed: Aug. 27, 2003
This dip was delicious with fresh fruit! We had family over for a BBQ and served the fresh fruit with the dip for dessert. Makes a nice dessert that isn't too heavy. It makes a lot. I added a lot more cherry juice than stated because it barely even made it pink. Next time I'll add a bit of red food coloring.

Key West Chicken

Reviewed: Aug. 27, 2003
The flavor was good (family enjoyed it) but the chicken turned out a bit dry. Perhaps it was because I marinated overnight or because I cut the breast in smaller strips and they cooked too fast.?? Next time I'll try marinating only for a few hours and keep the breasts whole.

Clam Dip

Reviewed: Aug. 5, 2003
This dip was ok. I liked it but my husband and guests didn't care a whole lot for it. It was strong clammy tasting. It is not like a typical dip (with cream cheese or sour cream) if that is what you are expecting when making this recipe.

Georgian Green Beans

Reviewed: Aug. 5, 2003
These made a great vegetable. The red onions sauteed almost gave it a sweet taste. The cilantro (which I love anyway) was the key. My husband suggested we add real bacon bits next time. I cooked the beans longer than the recipe called for.

Hearty Tuna Casserole

Reviewed: Jul. 19, 2003
We're not really big on tuna casseroles, but this one was very good. My husband who doesn't like "casseroles" or the whole idea of them even enjoyed this. He said he gives it 4 stars! I followed the recipe except I added 1/2 cup milk and used only a pinch of thyme. I added some garlic pepper too. Next time I think maybe I would use perhaps even a bit more milk and a bit more mayo because it was just a tad dry. I'll be making this easy & delicious one again.

Seven Layer Dip II

Reviewed: Apr. 24, 2003
This appetizer is Very good! I took this appetizer to my brother's for Easter and everyone loved it. The fresh avocados and cilantro really make it. It looked like a lot when I put it into a 9x13 pan, but it sure went fast!
