Apple Pumpkin Muffins

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2007
I followed this recipe exactly as it is. I made these for a teacher gift. My husband and I thought that they were pretty good. However, my 2 boys just ate the struesel topping off and left the rest of the muffin. They said that the apple was weird combined with the pumpkin. They preferred plain pumpkin muffins. Oh well. I didn't make it for them anyway! :-)

Sweet Potato Cranberry Bake

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2007
I made this exactly as it is written. I thought that this was very delicious and festive. So different from the traditional, sugary, sweet potato goop that my husband prefers. He liked it but prefers sugary goop. I loved it and am writing the review so I can give it the rating. If I have to cook sweet potatoes next time then this is what he is getting. It's healthier for him.

Cranberry Sauce

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2007
At first I made this exactly as it is written. WAY to orangey & bitter!! I tried to fix it by adding cointreau. Booze makes anything better, right? No. Still too orangey. Maybe consider 1/2 juice & 1/2 water as previous posters have suggested? I'll try to find another recipe.

Creamy Potato Leek Soup II

Reviewed: Feb. 17, 2008
This is a very simple, hearty, comfort-type of soup. We have made this several times. The only change we make is using ham insead of bacon. It is an excellent soup for using leftover holiday ham. Otherwise, we use the exact recipe and it is simply delicious!!

Hot Onion Dip

Reviewed: May 25, 2008
This is the best hot dip we have ever had. We make it exactly as it is written. No changes at all. We serve it with Frito's scoops. Our friends rave about it and always request it for parties. No one can keep their hands out of the serving dish...It's addictive.

Down Home Baked Beans

Reviewed: Jul. 5, 2008
We made these for a 4th of July party. Everyone seemed to like them. I'm not big on baked beans but I liked them and even had seconds. As other posters had recommended, we reduced the brown sugar to 1/2 cup. It seemed to work great.

Angel Hair Pasta with Lemon and Chicken

Reviewed: Oct. 7, 2008
This was very simple comfort-type food that was quick to make. The family seemed to love it. The only thing I changed is that I cooked a box of angel hair pasta instead of using the recommended pasta (cheaper) and I marinated cut-up chicken breasts in mojo sauce and stir fried them in a skillet.

Awesome Sausage, Apple and Cranberry Stuffing

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2009
FANTASTIC stuffing! I made a couple of changes based on what I had on hand. I used sourdough bread, fresh herbs, chicken stock, and omitted the liver. Based on other reviews I added a little extra stock for moisture. Someone else recommended adding an egg if not cooking it in the turkey. I may try that next time just to hold the ingredients together better. Otherwise, the flavor was phenominal and others asked for the recipe.

Quick and Easy Pizza Crust

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2010
This made an ok pizza crust. We added 1/2 teaspoon of basil and 1/4 teaspoon of onion powder to the dough. The crust still did not have much flavor and was a VERY soft and doughy. We prefer a more chewy crust and will keep searching...

This was a nice sauce. We added a little extra basil and 1 teaspoon of sugar as others have suggested. We will use this sauce again next time.

Slow Cooker Chicken Stroganoff

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2010
I set out to follow this recipe exactly but ending up modifying a little as I went along. First, I left my chicken breasts whole. I thought they would be more tender that way. I used reduced fat cream cheese and 98% fat free cream of chicken soup in order to make this healthier. I placed all ingredients in slow cooker and set on low for 5 hours. The slow cooker then went to "warm" setting until I got home 2 hours afterwards. I decided that I would cut up the chicken before adding the cheese and soup. The chicken was so tender that it just fell apart. VERY yummy! Yes, I had to taste a pinch before adding other stuff. :-) I added soup and cream cheese and cooked on high for about 20 minutes until it was heated through and mixed smoothly. I used NO yolks noodles and just mixed them into the pot of chicken when they were done cooking and had been drained well. We tasted it and decided that adding some peas would give some vegetable and natural sweetness. It reminded me of a tuna noodle casserole when it was completed. Anyway, it turned out delicious! We will definitely be adding this to our meal rotation!

Slow Cooker Chicken and Dumplings

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2010
I made this for the first time tonight. To make it healthier I used 98% fat free cream of chicken soup. At another reviewer's suggestion I decided to roll out the biscuit dough (Pillsbury Grands Jr, Flaky) and cut into 1/2 inch strips. After I added the 1st package of dough the sauce was too thick to take anymore. So, I left it at 1 can and was glad that I did. I ended up adding about 1/2 of chicken broth to thin the sauce a tad bit. I decided to add some frozen mixed veggies (beans, corn, carrots) for some added nutrition. After reading other's thoughts on doing so I decided the best way would be to cook them on the stove, drain all water off very well and then mix into slow cooker JUST before serving. This turned out to be GREAT! Excellent flavor and all of my picky little eaters at it!! Woo HOO!! This will definitely be put into the meal rotation! Thank you for the recipe.

Banana Crumb Muffins

Reviewed: Jan. 6, 2010
Probably the most fantastic muffin I have ever put in my mouth!! Following other suggestions I added 1 tsp. vanilla, 1/2 tsp. nutmeg, and 3/4 tsp. cinnamon to the muffin batter. I also used 1/2 c. white sugar and 1/4 c. brown instead of 3/4 white sugar. In the crumb topping I increased the cinnamon to 1/4 tsp. I stayed with the melted butter in the batter despite others changing it to oil. I think folks are underestimating the flavor that the butter lends to the muffin. Not to mention that they are VERY moist. Thank you for this recipe Ms. Kreft... I will be using this for now on!! :-)

French Baguettes

Reviewed: Jan. 9, 2010
FANTASTIC!! I followed this recipe exactly with the exception of brushing the loaves with the egg white and not yolk just prior to baking. My family devoured this at dinner. GONE!! This will be great for dinners, sandwiches and perhaps french bread pizza... yum! Nice chewy crust outside but soft inside.
