Chocolate Covered Peppermint Patties

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2006
Delicious, if not messy to make. Mine took a few cups more sugar than mentioned (I lost track counting after 8!) and I ended up dropping the somewhat gooey "dough" on wax paper-lined cookie sheets by teaspoonfuls and not flattening them at all. I put them in my oven (cold) for about 24 hours to dry, then dipped them in chocolate and the chocolate evened out a lot of the lumpiness. One of my hubbie's coworkers called them "professional" and this was my first try at chocolate/candy making ever!

Chocolate Covered Orange Balls

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2006
When making the "dough" for these, I tasted it and it was so familiar, but I couldn't figure out where from. A confrence with my mom sorted things out - growing up, she'd made the exact recipe only rolled them in powdered sugar. I think the chocolate was a welcome change and the whole family agreed. Thanks for posting this!

Chocolate Covered Cherries

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2006
Amazingly easy and delicious. I didn't get these made early enough to sit for a week or so before my family Christmas celebration, but noone complained. My only suggestion would be to make sure the "dough" is chilled because it gets very sticky as it warms up.

Hard Rock Candy

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2006
I made half-batches of this and used 1 tbsp cinnamon extract per half-batch and the flavor was good, but not overly strong. It was very easy and came out perfectly each of three times and my young nieces loved that I brought purple cinnamon candy to Christmas!

Creamy Turkey and Biscuits

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2006
I used celery instead of green pepper, corn instead of peas (a freezer oops) and cream of potato instead of mushroom soup, but otherwise kept the ingredient list the same and the filling was great! After reading that the biscuit/filling ratio was a bit off, I decided to use a smaller pan and fewer biscuits (about 8x8 with 9 biscuits), too. But the biscuits looked overdone halfway through the baking time, but were gooey inside. So next time, I may follow the cooking temperature on the biscuit tube (it was lower than stated here), or maybe try baking the biscuits first to avoid the underbaked-ness that my hubby was unhappy with.

Chuckwagon Stew

Reviewed: Nov. 17, 2006
I would give this only three stars, but since my hubby liked it, I'll give it the extra one. I added carrots, hot sauce and liquid smoke as other reviewers suggested, and while the carrots and hot sauce were fine, the liquid smoke combined with the smoked sausage I used was too much smoke. I could eat it, but would definitely encourage my hubby to taste the concoction (he added the liquid smoke near the end of cooking, as I was at work yet) before adding the smoke if we ever make this again. Overall, a good, hearty meal on a cold, snowy day.

Oven Baked Potato Wedges

Reviewed: Nov. 5, 2006
Very tasty. I made sure to slice the wedges thin, threw them in a zipper bag with some olive oil to coat, then dipped in the Italian bread crumbs. They were cooked through in the given time and even warmed over pretty well. My only complaint was that the crumbs made a mess because, though the wedges were still pretty well coated, they fell off. Tolerable flaw.

Chicken Tetrazzini

Reviewed: Oct. 9, 2006
I used sliced up chicken breasts, sauteed them in olive oil with about 1 tsp minced garlic and omitted the peppers and mushrooms (picky hubby). Without the garlic, the chicken would have been bland, but I loved the sauce. A very quick and easy, hearty dinner that I will make again. I like that it has potential to add ingredients to change it up a bit. I wish I hadn't left this one sitting in my recipe box for so long!

Irish Chicken and Dumplings

Reviewed: Oct. 1, 2006
Good comfort food. Hubby and I agree it's missing something, but maybe just because it's not "fancy." Will keep in my recipe box for sharing with sick friends!

Stuffed Pork Chops III

Reviewed: Sep. 18, 2006
SALTY! The stuffing could also have used some cheese or something other than parsley for flavor. Though they have potential and were easy (the 25 min prep time more than I'd ever need), although I don't think I'll make them again.

Herb and Chicken Pasta

Reviewed: Sep. 11, 2006
The chicken was delicious. The pasta lacked flavor; it definitely needs to be seasoned somehow, as the "sauce" made from broth, onions and garlic doesn't do enough for me. But the seasonings on the chicken were great and at least that portion of the recipe is a keeper! Update: leftovers were better, well the pasta (chicken was still great). The pasta soaked up some of the sauce and gained a nice flavor overnight.

Meatball Soup

Reviewed: Sep. 10, 2006
I just finished eating this for dinner and it was good, but nothing to write home about. I used a 6oz. can of tomato paste in place of one of the cans of tomato sauce and about a cup of frozen green beans instead of the celery, but otherwise followed the recipe. It tasted like goulash. And the meatballs were soggy . I'm not a big fan of celery, but now know it would have tasted fine in the soup and my hubby and I decided that the addition of corn and/or lima beans as well would have been good. The tomato paste helped thicken up the soup (maybe the macaroni too?), so it wasn't runny as other reviewers mentioned. But it seemed like a kid-type food and, as we have no kids, we can tend towards more mature flavors in our dinners than this. Though it wasn't bad, I won't make it again.

Very good. I didn't care for the roasted red peppers (personal taste), but otherwise, loved them.

Garlic Chive Chicken

Reviewed: Jul. 26, 2006
One word - lemony! The chicken was good, but the sauce, in particular the garlic, was SOUR! A whole lemon's worth of juice was too much.

Chorizo Burger

Reviewed: Jul. 25, 2006
Don't be afraid of the spicy chorizo - the burgers aren't! I was skeptical about the whole recipe, but wanted to try something new, so I went for it and was pleasantly suprized. And the onions sauteed with brown sugar, mmm! I couldn't find the cheese, so just used sharp cheddar (not sure if it's even close, but an old stand-by for burgers at our house) and can't complain. Even my picky husband liked them, AND the sauce!!!

Lisa's Easy Chicken

Reviewed: Jul. 25, 2006
Very good. I gave it only 4 stars because it's simple enough that there's room for improvement - though it doesn't really need any!

Citrus Cheesecake

Reviewed: Apr. 17, 2006
I made a chocolate graham cracker crust instead of the one in the recipe, but otherwise followed the recipe exactly and the result was wonderful. My picky husband said it was really, really good (a huge compliment from him) and that it was probably the best cheesecake I'd ever made! And it was easy to make, too. Update: Took this to a fund raiser bake sale and it brought in the most $$ and had a bid placed by almost everyone there!

Orange Muffins

Reviewed: Apr. 2, 2006
Good but not great. Orange flavor is subtle and muffins were a bit dry, but my picky hubby liked them. I baked at directed temperature and after about 19 minutes, the bottom tasted a bit burnt (looked a bit dark, but nothing to arouse suspicion of burning).
