Pear Honey

The pears taste divine in this recipe. I made this a week ago and I still crave it! Plus, it is not expensive to make and so that is a nice bonus when you are canning. After reading some of the reviews, I was mourning that I had used the full amount of sugar in the recipe so I added a half teaspoon of salt (full recipe size) and it cut the sweetness. On the second batch (half recipe) I reduced the sugar and added a small jar of drained and chopped maraschino cherries in the last half hour of cooking. Divine!!

Easy Pumpkin Turnovers

Um...how do you get 9 out of a sheet? That's an odd number. Am I just dumb? (valid question). I used Pepperidge Farms and could either get 4 or 16, so I chose 4. They turned out full size and with a few extra cooking minutes-just really nice. I also read the reviews and used an orange juice concentrate glaze on them. I made apple pie filling ones with cinnamon glaze. It's important if you use a glaze though to not make it frosting thick because the pastry itself cools really fast and won't so much melt the glaze the way a sweet roll would. If your glaze is too thick, it will depress the top of the pastry. A slightly runny glaze works best. I think it would be really fun to try these with Lime Curd with some sort of pommegranate glaze for Christmas.

Blue Ribbon Sugar Cookies

The dough has a wonderful flavor, however it is deceiving that the picture has what appears to be rolled out cookies. Rolling out the dough was a nightmare. It does not work very well to just add more flour- the dough crumbles. I used very fresh butter though so maybe this is the reason. Otherwise a good recipe, but three stars because it really made a situation for me to not be able to roll out the dough.
