Baklava

Reviewed: Jan. 6, 2007
This was nothing short of incredible. My father grew up in a Greek home and told me mine was as good as his Yiya's (and he is not one to dole out the compliments). I was always so intimadated but this was a HUGE success. I think I will make these every Christmas to honor my Greek heritage. BTW, I also added lemon zest to the sauce--necessary for that Mediterannean flair.

Barbeque Pork Two Ways

Reviewed: Aug. 10, 2005
Really tasty. I did as others suggested and added some spicy barbecue sauce I got at a special bbq joint in Arizona. Just 1/2 cup. We've been eating the leftovers all week. one night put it on a bed of lettuce with black beans, corn, tomato, and salad dressing made from half ranch dressing and half bbq sauce. YUM! Thanks KIMBER!

French Beef Stew

Reviewed: Aug. 10, 2005
I thought this was very tasty, especially with the crusty bread as suggested. My husband thought it was pretty good, so that's why 4 stars. The dijon mustard does make it taste country french, "pres d'Avignon".

Banana Coconut Loaf

Reviewed: Jun. 19, 2004
really tasty, even without the cherries. And I also used just vanilla (the real deal, not flavoring). I also added extra coconut and pecans--YUM! So good and moist.

Gravel Salad

Reviewed: Jun. 19, 2004
OK, not great, not bad, but I've got tons of leftovers and they've been sitting in the fridge for a week now untouched. So I probably won't make again.

Famous Coconut-Almond Balls

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2004
Very easy and tasty! Put them in little paper candy cups and they looked tres fancy! Be sure not to make them too large, though. I think the smaller the better (as long as they are large enough to put a whole almond on).

Caramel Shortbread Squares

Reviewed: Nov. 16, 2003
I took all suggestions and comments to mind when making these. . . I lined pan with foil and greased it. AS far as the caramel goes, I added 1 12 tsp of milk before vigourously beating for 3 minutes. It never set! It was soft, gooey and good, but didn't allow chocolate to spread evenly. Additionally, it wasn't correct texture and seemed to make each square fall apart. The taste was sweet overall, but NOTHING like a Twix. It was okay. I doubt I'll even try the recipe again--it was OK!

Broccoli Cheese Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 13, 2003
Good recipe! It was the first broccoli cheese soup I had ever made and I thought it was pretty darn good. It didn't thicken very quickly and I had to take it to a dinner, so plan on some time for the thickening. Also, my husband seems to remember his grandma's being a lot better (of course he was 10, but oh well). Thanks, Karin!

Grandma Johnson's Scones

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2003
I don't know WHAT I could have done wrong. I usually "snicker" at those who can't get a 5-star recipe right, but this time I AM ONE OF THOSE! This was SO DRY! I followed the recipe exactly and even used chilled butter as suggested and it was in crumbles! I had to add 1/4 cup milk to get it to form a dough. Then I made about 20 scones and it took over 25 minutes to cook the 1st batch. They were pretty tasty, but not as good as I am sure if I succeeded with original recipe. They weren't very pretty, either. I might try them again, but it sure can be an expensive mistake to make more than once!

Pecan Pie Bars I

Reviewed: Nov. 3, 2003
These were really SOO good. Made them for a family dinner get-together and although none of the kids touched them (there were 3 other desserts) the adults--and especially Grandpa--loved them! I added a few pecans because I thought it seemed too saucy.

Day Before Mashed Potatoes

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2003
I have to admit, with all the sour cream, cream cheese, and butter, I was expecting it to be WAY creamier or richer. I love plain ol'mashed potatoes with butter and milk. BUT, this is a great time saver to do day before. I made a dinner for a friend who just had a baby and it was nice to be able to have it made and just tell her to throw it in the over 30 minutes before she was ready to eat with the meatloaf!

Slow Cooker Taco Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2003
It was a good BASIC recipe. Nothing special. It would probably be good for a party or something when everyone has different tastes, it's somewhat bland, but you can dress it up. I think next time I will add cilantro, garlic, and cumin. Maybe jalapenos instead of green peppers. Pretty good!

Banana Crumb Muffins

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2003
I can't believe these are actually as good as everyone says. Somehow the banana bread taste with the brown sugar topping works so well. Everyone LOVED them and I WILL be making them again! Thanks, Lisa!

Butter Cream Frosting II

Really good! I also used butter instead of margarine. I didn't use all powd. sugar, it was already desired consistency at 4 1/2 cups! Made lots of creamy buttery frosting! Thanks Kris!

Caramel Popcorn Balls

Reviewed: Sep. 11, 2003
Already made it twice. I prefer to make slightly less popcorn than suggested so my popcorn balls are extra caramel-y. Love it, love it, LOVE IT!

Lemonade Cake I

Reviewed: Sep. 7, 2003
Very good and FANCY looking. I probably added too much extra lemonade concentrate, because it was quite TART! But really easy considering only 3-step process. I used Cool Whip, which was PERFECT. I don't know why you'd want to make it more difficult by doing whipping cream mix. Cool Whip keeps it a clean, fresh taste. YUM!

Broccoli Lasagna

Reviewed: Jul. 30, 2003
Very plain. I thought it was pretty good but my husband didn't even want me to keep the leftovers (which isn't a good sign). Definetely something missing--needs spices or herbs. Just OK!

Chocolate Brittle Surprise

Reviewed: Feb. 14, 2003
Warning!: The cookie sheet must be a jelly roll pan (the ones with the four sides). Otherwise, as I found out by trial and error, the caramel sauce drips EVERYWHERE onto your oven. I don't know what I was thinking, but they were tight on the sheet when they went into the oven, but all over the place when they came out! Other than that, it was good candy, not great but good! Thanks for the recipe!
