Grilled Coffee and Cola Skirt Steak

I couldn't find a skirt steak so I used a flank steak. Only marinated it for 5 hours and it was STILL yummy. The whole family loved the reduced marinade and made good use of it. Will definitely make this again. Confession time: Didn't have rice vinegar so I used Sake.

Cheddar Bacon Hamburgers

I never would have thought of putting shredded cheddar IN the burger. What a great idea! I made this pretty much as written, except instead of plain salt I used a combination of Hy's Seasoning Salt and Victorian Epicure's Alder Smoked Sea Salt Blend. Made the bacon bits myself from freshly-cooked bacon, but didn't make enough. Fried them hot and fast on a cast-iron skillet. The crisped sharp cheddar cheese was wonderful. This was probably the best burger I've ever made. Didn't need condiments - all I added was sliced, fresh-picked, home-grown tomato. My daughter, who doesn't normally like burgers pronounced it a success. My son would prefer I left out the horseradish. My husband would rather I left out the garlic powder. Right. They are both so wrong - it was awesome!

The Best Steak Marinade

Loved this. I was using a cheap sirloin cut and marinated it for 3 or 4 hours. The only change I made was that I was out of balsamic vinegar, so I used Nonna Pia's Strawberry/Fig Balsamic Reduction (sweet and thick) that I had in the cupboard. I used half as much as the recipe called for. Did not add salt because our soy sauce (China Lily) is very salty. No vinegar taste reported by anyone, but using the reduction, I suppose that makes a lot of sense. While my husband barbecued the steaks, I stirred some corn starch into the remaining marinade and boiled it down for serving at the table. Lovely poured over the steak.

Caribbean Rum Punch

As long as you follow the rhyme, this punch is yummy – but dangerous! What I had was RealLemon, Grenadine, Amber Bacardi Rum, and pineapple juice. Plus ice. Pretty sweet, but drinking it, you would never know the rum was there. So the alcohol really sneaks up on you. Loved it, but one per night is probably enough!

Delicious Egg Salad for Sandwiches

Lovely basic egg salad recipe. Love it on fluffy white bread. d. Try making it with Miracle Whip instead and it'll have the zip you're craving. I've never liked celery in my egg salad, but a little green onion or chives is just wonderful.
