Southern Fried Green Tomatoes

Reviewed: Aug. 6, 2011
These were really good, but I added salt, pepper, paprika, and a little sugar to the flour/cornmeal mixture, 'cause that's what my mamaw used to do, these tasted just like hers! I also threw in a Tbsp. of bacon grease with the olive oil, yummy!

Best Ever Brisket

This is an absolutely perfect recipe, not too salty as others have mentioned, the only thing I added was a good bit of liquid smoke to the broth. Your home is going to smell awesome while this is cooking!

Dads' Gather Around Christmas Punch

Reviewed: Nov. 30, 2010
Everyone at our gathering loved this punch, I used gingerale instead of the lemon lime soda, and I made the ice out of some of the pineapple juice. The punch was gone in an hour

Banana Chocolate Chip Dessert

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2010
I made this twice, the first as written (I thought it was good, it tasted like banana bread with chocolate in it,) I wanted more of a pound cake, so the second time around I added 1/2 C sour cream and put in the whole bag (12 oz) of choc chips, I also upped the sugars to 3/4 C, and it was perfect, but either way it's pretty darn good!

Creamy Onion Gravy

It was okay, but I made again and subbed the oil with butter, and the water with chicken broth, and I had a five star gravy!

Spicy Kielbasa Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 22, 2009
The kielbasa was "mealy" and too soft for my liking. I made again, but left the Kielbasa out of the slow cooker, and just sauteed in quickly when I got home, put it in bowls, and then added the soup. If you like your sausages with a "snap" then this alteration is a must, as the soup itself is really good.

Pudding Shots

Reviewed: Oct. 22, 2009
Don't expect these to be like pudding.... they are a creamy shot, made to drink, not eat. This recipe is great because of the ratio of liquor to milk. I used instant Pumpkin Spice pudding, 1 cup milk, 3/4 C Butterscotch Schnapps and 1/4 C vanilla vodka, I also used 1 Tbls of Cinnamon Schnapps, and it tasted like pumpkin pie with a kick. We added a little whipped cream to the top before serving. They were gone in seconds.

Honestly, the best black bean "salsa" I've ever tried, perfect just as written. We tried this with chips, and it was ADDICTIVE!

No Bake Cookies V

This recipe is the chocolatiest version on this site, you may think this is crazy, but I add 1/2 tsp Cayenne Pepper along with the salt, it really brings out the cocoa flavor, and NO it doesn't make them spicy my 5 and 1 yr. old love these!

This is a good recipe, but I don't think it needs the entire stick of butter. I make it with half a stick and it is delicious.

Spaghetti Sauce I

Reviewed: Mar. 26, 2009
I completely omitted the sugar in this recipe, if sugar wasn't listed I would have given this 5 stars. Most canned tomato sauces have sugar in them already, so it isn't needed, however if you're using crushed tomatoes, I think the sugar would be about right.

Whoopie Pies V

Reviewed: Mar. 6, 2009
Because of the negative reviews, I didn't use the recipe for the cookie, I just bought a choc cake mix, and added 1/3C oil, 2 eggs, and 3/4C Water at 375 for 10 min and they were perfect, I did however use the filling, because I don't like eating (or have my kids eating) shortening that's found in most whoopie pie recipes, despite reviews to the contrary, the filling is rich and delicious, and needs no liquid at all as long as you are using room temp butter. I am giving it four stars for the filling alone.

This is an awesome recipe, but roll them in the sugar twice, once when they are warm, and then again after they have cooled, the sugar will not fall off, or get sticky, they will be perfect!

Perfect Pizzelles! I don't know how anyone could have trouble with this recipe, I have used it for years. You can also replace the vanilla or anise with Amaretto, spiced rum, or butter scotch liquer.

Christmas Punch

Reviewed: Dec. 11, 2008
I made this twice, once as written (it was a little bitter) the second time around I made revisions: I used 1/3 of a 46 oz can of pineapple juice instead of chuncks, and I used unsweetened lime juice instead of lemon juice, and a liter of Sierra Mist instead of Carbonated Water, and I only added the orange slices instead of orange and lemon. This version was not at all bitter and a little more flavorful, but both went over well at the party and no one got too tipsy (because of the punch anyway) anyone that drinks wine or beer can easily handle 2 small glasses of this punch!
