Cola Pot Roast I

Reviewed: Jun. 20, 2006
This was awesome! I don't even like pot roasts, but I try to make them for my family because they're easy to do. Mine usually come out dry--even in the crock pot. This was so moist and had a great flavor. It does make a lot of gravy, so I'm thinking you could even use a 4 or 5 lb roast with this. As mentioned by some other reviewers, I thought this was going to end up like a roast in spaghetti sauce, but I couldn't have been more wrong. Give this one a try! This one will definitely be in my recipe rotation from now on.

Easy Granola Bars

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2005
These are fantastic and super easy to make. In my first batch, I used a standard trail mix, but also added mini M&Ms, which were great. I am excited about trying some different add-in ingredients. These are great for a quick snack or breakfast on the go and are easy enough to make often.

A-Number-1 Banana Cake

Reviewed: Feb. 11, 2005
This was excellent! It had a few more steps than I'm used to doing, but I followed the recipe exactly and the cake came out great--so moist with a wonderful flavor. I used a 9 x 13 baking pan and baked for about 35 minutes. I used the "Whipped Cream Cream Cheese Frosting" also found on this website for the icing and I highly recommend it. I'll definitely make this again!

Whipped Cream Cream Cheese Frosting

Reviewed: Feb. 11, 2005
I just made the "A Number 1 Banana Cake" found on this website and used this frosting with it. It came out great! I refridgerated the whipped cream while I was making the cream cheese portion and then put it back in the fridge after everything was folded in for about 10 minutes as suggested by some other reviewers. The consistency was excellent. It makes a lot of frosting, I think maybe a little too much for a 9 x 13 cake, but I will just eat the excess with a spoon (or maybe dip some strawberries into it!). I will be using this recipe again and again! THANKS!

Slow Cooker Salisbury Steak

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2005
This was excellent and will go into my regular recipe rotation. My kids loved it and I liked it, too. However, I can see how this has the possibility to become too salty, so I used the suggestions of some of the other reviewers and used low sodium soup. It came out great and the gravy was good for a side of noodles.

Grandma's Slow Cooker Vegetarian Chili

Reviewed: Dec. 30, 2004
This was excellent! I made it for a Christmas party and it was gobbled up. I will definitely be making this again. Also, for those of you who could not find the black bean soup, try the "international" section of your grocery store. I found it under the "Goya" brand name. My problem was trying to find the chopped tomatoes in puree. I checked three grocery stores and all of the diced/chopped tomatoes were in juice, not puree. But it really didn't matter because this came out fantastic anyway!!

Mexican Baked Fish

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2004
This was delicious and so easy to prepare. We are trying to eat more fish, so this is a great recipe to have. I wasn't sure whether I should have used Fritos or the Tostitos corn chips, so I went with the Fritos--which I thought would entice my kids to try this, but they wouldn't. Oh well, all the more for my husband and I. Thanks for the recipe!

Easy Dump Cake

Reviewed: Dec. 12, 2004
This was excellent! I was a little nervous because I usually don't like recipes that use the pudding/box cake mixes, but maybe the addition of sour cream and eggs make a difference. In my opinion, it tastes very close to a "made from scratch" cake. I added a mixture of semi-sweet and peanut butter chips, sprinkled it with powdered sugar and it was delicious.

Hoagie Bake

Reviewed: Dec. 12, 2004
I thought this was unbelievably easy to make. I used pizza dough and lower sodium lunchmeats as suggested by some of the other reviewers and it was great! I'm also going to try some different variations next time, like adding roasted red peppers, different cheeses, etc.

Drip Beef Sandwiches

Reviewed: Nov. 30, 2004
This was excellent! I don't really like roasts too much, but I seared this really well and let it go on the stove for a few hours. I only had a 3lb roast, so I halved the recipe, but I wish I would have had a 5lb one. It was that good. Also, I didn't use a coffee filter, but just threw everything in the pot, which is fine, but if you do this, make sure you use a strainer to get those peppercorns out. They are not pleasant to bite into!!!

Baked Salmon Fillets Dijon

Reviewed: Nov. 30, 2004
This was great and so easy to prepare. We are trying to eat more fish, and this seems like it might be a good recipe for kids (although I still can't convince my kids to try it!). The only negative comment I had was that this did not store well, the topping got mushy, so I would suggest eating it right away.

Roast Beef with Coffee

Reviewed: May 7, 2004
This was very good and was a nice change of pace to the traditional roasts I usually make. I halved this recipe because I only had a 2. lb roast and it worked just fine. I also browned the roast before adding the garlic. The gravy was very good too. The only thing I would do differently is maybe add some salt to the gravy. Also, note to families with kids....they may not be wild about the taste of this, one of my sons loved it, the other did not.

Cheeseburger and Fries Casserole

Reviewed: May 7, 2004
This was very good! Usually my family doesn't like casseroles, but I was looking for something different to do with ground beef and came upon this. Based on some of the other reviews saying it was too bland, I used 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1/4 teaspoon pepper, and 1 teaspoon garlic powder and I thought the flavor was fine (in fact, I may even decrease some of the salt next time). I also used a monterey jack/colby blend of cheese on top. I will definitely make this again!

Blueberry Crumb Bars

Reviewed: May 5, 2004
I just made these and they turned out great! My son just loves them. I have to say it was a little tedious to make the crumb crust/topping, but well worth it. It is also great with vanilla ice cream.

Sour Cream Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: May 5, 2004
I also had sour cream that I needed to use, so I thought I'd give this recipe a try. While it is not your traditional chocolate chip cookie recipe, I thought it was very good. I omitted the raisins and added chocolate chips and walnuts instead. I have made this a few times already and they have turned out great every time. You may want to underbake these slightly so they are moist.

Buffalo Chicken Strips II

Reviewed: Mar. 18, 2004
I had some leftover blue cheese I didn't know what to do with so I thought I'd try this recipe. I used sour cream in place of the yogurt and the dip was delicious. I ate it with celery and carrots as well as the strips. My husband thought the dip was a bit too oniony, so he just used ranch dressing on his chicken. The chicken came out great, too. I will definitely make this again! Thanks!

Slow Cooker Lemon Garlic Chicken II

Reviewed: Mar. 18, 2004
This was excellent! I usually don't do chicken breasts in the crock pot because they get too dry, but these stayed nice and moist and the flavor was delicious. As per some of the other reviews, I used a can of chicken broth in place of the water and granules. I also doubled the oregano, salt, and pepper rub, but I don't think I will do that again because I think it made the chicken a bit too "spicy" for my kids and they wouldn't eat it. However, I will be making this again. definitely make this again.

Chuck's Favorite Mac and Cheese

Reviewed: Mar. 18, 2004
I chose this recipe because I had some leftover cottage cheese I didn't know what to do with. The consistency was fine and the flavor was unique, but I don't think I would make this again. It got a mixed review in my house.

Four Cheese Macaroni

Reviewed: Mar. 11, 2004
This was very good but I think I left it in the oven too long, because it wasn't as creamy as I thought it should be. However, my family loved it and I will be making this again!
