About this Cook
Linguist clever disguised as architect, currently posing as writer and photographer.
My favorite things to cook
Vegetables and crockpot dishes.
My favorite family cooking traditions
SpƤtzle; mashed potatoes; Christmas cookies!
My cooking triumphs
The perfect Thanksgiving turkey. (The secret: 7 hours in the slow-cooker for moistness, then one hour in the oven for crisped skin. Perfection!)
My cooking tragedies
My family now knows that "I sure hope the kitchen doesn't catch fire" is not intended as a joke.

Antipasto Squares
Wonderful for a party. I was able to make most of this the night before, just left off the peppers and the top dough layer to keep it from getting too soggy; this meant I only spent five minutes the day of the party on the dish that ended up being the biggest hit! Note - I found this much better served room temperature than hot.

Slow Cooker Turkey Breast
Best ratio of good-to-easy that I've ever found, turkey or otherwise. I'd recommend one change: popping it in the oven for the last 30-45 minutes! Crisps the skin beautifully without taking anything away from the tender juiciness of the meat. Also scattered pearl onions, carrots, broccoli in the bottom for the chicken to sit on and covered those just to the top with garlic-flavored chicken broth. Made a brilliant side dish with no extra work. Doing this again next Thanksgiving for sure. Thanks, Ms. Sally!

French Silk Chocolate Pie I
Sugar-ier and heavier than I'd hoped. Still on the prowl for the perfect French silk chocolate recipe.
