About this Cook
I retired in June, 2009, and am really loving it. Between gardening and baking, there is never a dull moment.
My favorite things to cook
I absolutely love baking bread. My neighbors love me as I can't use all that I bake, so I give it away. Cheesecake is my second favorite.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Thanksgiving dinner!!
My cooking triumphs
Cheesecake. Lots of different kinds.
My cooking tragedies
The first time I roasted a duck! Even though this was 50 years ago, I've never tried one since!

Texas Sheet Cake III
I had never heard of Texas sheet cake until I tried this recipe. It's great! I made it exactly as given and like it so much this way, I wouldn't take a chance on trying some of the changes other reviewers have suggested. It is "demanded" for all of our church pot lucks!.

Pear Bread II
This recipe is super easy and really good. As others suggested, I used 1/2 cup unsweetened apple sauce and 1/2 cup vegetable oil. I also increased the spices (2 tsp. cinnamon, 1 tsp. freshly ground nutmeg, and 1 tsp. ginger) as that is my personal preferance. I used pears that were still a little hard, and it turned out great. Thanks for the recipe!

Crabmeat Roll-Ups
I made this for my annual Christmas party, and wow was it a hit! I am glad that I had doubled the recipe, as it still didn't last the entire evening. It is so easy to make, and can be prepared ahead of time!
