Apple Pie by Grandma Ople
I have made this pie every week for the last 3 weeks due to rave reviews (and it's prime apple season)! I don't really even care for apple pie, but this one is outstanding...melt in your mouth delicious! I've made pies for work, my family, my mom's work and everyone wants the recipe...except for my 3-year-old son...he's just happy for me to make the pies and him to eat it up!
I have a few minor alterations. 1)I use all Jonathon apples (I do use 8 medium size). 2) I add 1 tsp cinnamon and 1 tsp+ vanilla to the caramel mixture. 3) I make a homemade crust from the Betty Crocker cookbook...enough for 3 crusts because I like an extra thick crust. 4) I mix the apple slices in the caramel sauce, then use a slotted spoon to fill the bottom crust, reserving a small portion of sauce to brush over my lattice top crust. Then I bake as directed.
Thanks for providing us with Grandma Ople's recipe! I will be using this at every available opportunity!!
