Oh my word was this ever good! Thank you so much for posting. I followed the recipe as listed-but did make a few adjustments to taste. Added a bit of sour cream to mashed potato,along w/diced onion and cheddar cheese,salt/pepper. Fried the lean ground beef w/onion, some fresh diced garlic,and added some fresh mushrooms,seasoned w/ salt,pepper and season all. I did follow advice of others and used the gravy pkt w/ water in place of broth,added a bit of worcestershire and ketchup,to taste as it simmered-thickened w/ the addition of flour. In a separate small pan boiled a small amount of fresh cut up carrots, and after they were tender, added 1 can of peas and niblet corn and let the veges simmer in a small amount of butter. Then layered in a 2.5 qt baking dish,meat mixture, veges and potatoe on top. Sprinkled some paprika and cheddar cheese on top,baked for apprx 40 min, til top was golden brown and it was like magic.. The flavors blended so wonderfully- I am ashamed,yet proud,to say- between two people- there remains only about 1/2 of the dish left after dinner tonight..This recipe is a keeper and I cannot wait to make it again for other family members. What a wonderful dish!
