About this Cook
I will try anything -- probably because I have spent time developing recipes for national publications, I believe in presentation (I have done food styling) so for kids new foods may be in themed lunches --kitty (made with multi colored peppers etc)
My favorite things to cook
Oriental,and Italian --I love Mexican but we have some superb Mexican restaurants here and I like lots of variety on the Mexican plate ---to time consuming !!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Lots of Christmas cookies --- usually 20 varieties (include a couple new each year)---early years of marriage I did a themed dinner each Christmas eve --- now a larger extended family it is a pot luck.
My cooking tragedies
My mother was "you know how cook"---I never cooked at home -- so first month of marriage I decided to make a favorite shrimp au gratin ---I knew it needed a white sauce so called mother she said and wrote out: 2 Tbs butter, 2Tbs flour and 1 cup liquid such as WATER, milk, broth---WELLLL I used water and cooked and cooked and it never became WHITE it was warm GLUE!! Lesson learned always write recipe as if reader knows nothing about cooking !!!!

Nikki's Best Rhubarb Dessert Ever
VERY GOOD added 1 tsp real vanilla and 1/4 tsp freshly grated nutmeg it says 4 cups which is perfect for this NOT 4 pounds as gogogadget stated as "to much" 4# would be way to much .

Eggnog Cheesecake III
Prepared as written with substituting rum extract 2 tsp for rum needed more flavor even with fresh nutmeg grated on top it needed vanilla and nutmeg / cardamon. Texture was the problem ----did it in processor and it was like a soft pudding not the mouth feel of cheese cake nor softness of silk pie --1-2 minutes in processor or just use a whip on a mixer ---needs texture---- As for comments on being to flat --check pan size I have 4 sizes of spring molds most used is my 12" not the 9" as called for

White Cheese Chicken Lasagna
I used precooked lasagna noodles (15) perfect in 9x13 pan. For the cooked chicken I poached 1 whole breast in 2cups of water to which I added oregano, diced garlic, basil -- for 30 minutes cooled and the cut up --used the liquid for broth
