Softest Soft Bread with Air Pockets Using Bread Machine

Reviewed: Sep. 1, 2013
I may bake the next one in the bread machine, but I haven't had such good luck with other recipes, so when it came out after the dough cycle as more like a batter bread, I wondered if I'd misread the amount of flour. But I decided to bake it anyway, and I'm so glad I did. It doesn't rise very high, and it doesn't brown up like "regular" bread, but it tastes great. I'll make this again, and I may even try baking it in the machine, too, to avoid the mess of turning it out into a bread pan. Thanks!

Potato Klubb (Norwegian Potato Dumplings)

Reviewed: Dec. 17, 2012
In my family, we called this kumle. Most of the time my grandma would boil a hambone (uncured) and then cook the kumle in the broth. Occasionally, for a 7th Day Adventist sister, she would use beef short ribs. This will be my Christmas dinner this year. You have to really pack the dumplings before placing them in the broth, and it must only be a simmer or less, otherwise they'll fall apart. I'm making it with short ribs, but I may try adding bacon to it, too, as others have done.

Fried Rice I

Reviewed: Nov. 2, 2012
I used leftover white rice from the night. I also didn't have any frozen peas (it's a texture thing), but other than that, I followed the recipe exactly. I liked that the egg is cooked after the bacon, and not when all the other ingredients are added. I will probably use more soy sauce and/or green onions next time, but there will be a next time, this was so good. Thank you!

Easy Cheesy Cream of Broccoli Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2012
Actually, 3 stars is higher than I'd have rated it if I hadn't altered the recipe a bit. I sauteed a small chopped onion before adding the rest of the ingredients, and the taste was simply "off". Thanks for sharing the recipe, but I'm going to keep looking.

Cocktail Meatballs I

Reviewed: Dec. 20, 2011
I haven't made them yet, but will do so tomorrow morning for our department's holiday food fest. Based on the number of high ratings, I know these will be a big hit. Thank you!

Prime Rib Au Jus with Yorkshire Pudding

Reviewed: Dec. 16, 2011
I'd never roasted a rib roast before last Christmas, and have always wanted to try Yorkshire Pudding, so I used this recipe from start to finish. The only thing I didn't do was stud the roast with garlic. I was SO pleasantly surprised at how easy it was, and in fact will be doing another one for Christmas this year. Thank you for a great recipe! (Garlic mashed potatoes made this a very special dinner!)

Kendra's Maid-Rite Sandwiches

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2011
This recipe looks exactly like what we called (in Iowa schools) taverns and how my mom used to make them. I haven't tried the recipe yet, but I'm willing to bet it'll take me back. Thank you!!

Out of this World Turkey Brine

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2011
I made this recipe exactly as stated, and maybe roasting the turkey breast instead of smoking it had something to do with it, but it was WAY too salty. I couldn't drink enough water that night! Sorry, I won't be using this recipe again.

Chicken Corn Chowder

Reviewed: Oct. 22, 2011
I loved this chowder! I modified for what I had on hand (cream of mushroom instead of celery, homemade salsa instead of Pace picante), and I simply threw it all in the pot after the bacon was cooked. I also threw in about 2 cups (2 large handsful of "fiesta blend" shredded cheese instead of putting it on top. I added about a quarter cup more milk to make it a little thinner, but it was still thick and hearty. I'll be making this again and again!

Bread Machine Bagels

Reviewed: Sep. 19, 2011
I loved these, and I can see them becoming a staple at my house. I had one misstep, in that I forgot to add the sugar to the boiling water, so they boiled for 2 minutes. Baked 20-25 minutes, and they still came out great. The more I make them, the prettier they'll be, I'm sure.

Pretty Chicken Marinade

Reviewed: Aug. 29, 2011
I had to make what I hoped would be good substitutions. No liquid smoke, so I used steak sauce. No spicy mustard, so I used regular yellow. It was very, very good. I only marinated for an hour or so while the coals heated, but the chicken had a very nice flavor.

Green Tomato Raspberry Jam

Reviewed: Aug. 26, 2011
I'd give this more stars if I could. Kids, young and old, love this. But don't tell the little ones that it's made with green tomatoes. They'll turn up their noses. Just tell them it's raspberry and they'll want mo', mo', mo'!!!!

Cold Oven Pound Cake

Reviewed: Aug. 15, 2011
I made this for a friend and her family, and one of her little girls asked me to make it again for her. I love the flavor of almond extract, so I used that instead of vanilla. I need to make it again and bring for work anniversary. It's perfect!

Rubbed and Grilled Pork Loin

Reviewed: Aug. 4, 2011
Oh my gosh! This was so good, and the instructions for grilling were outstanding. I grilled my 2 pound loin 10 minutes each on 2 sides at the highest setting, and then lowered the coals halfway for the next 20 minutes for the last side. I needed to add about 5 minutes to reach the 160 degrees. But it was so succulent! The only thing I did badly, and it's not the recipe's fault, was not to add some salt when I used onion and garlic powders. It could have used a little bit of salt. That was my bad, so this recipe rates 5 stars and then some!

Oven Potato Wedges

Reviewed: Jul. 22, 2011
These were very good potato wedges, but I let them bake a little longer than stated, and next time I'll probably use onion powder, because the chopped onions burned in the pan. Very, very good flavor!

Good Burger

Reviewed: Jul. 21, 2011
I needed to do something new to buffalo burger, and this hit the spot. I didn't have Cajun seasoning, so I threw in a couple dashes of hot sauce. Next time, I'll cut back a bit on the brown sugar. A sweet burger was a bit of shock to the system. However, the burger was still delicious!

White Sloppy Joes

Reviewed: Jul. 13, 2011
I make a hamburger stroganoff very much like this, but without the liquid smoke. I do add onions, garlic powder, and paprika, too, so perhaps those additions might make it less bland for those who are iffy with the recipe as is. Thanks for tonight's supper idea! I've been struggling all day!

My Chili

Reviewed: Jul. 13, 2011
This is almost exactly how I make my chili, and without even trying it, I know you'll love this recipe. The only variation I might make is if I have chili beans in the cupboard for a little kick.

Krystal's Perfect Marinade for BBQ or Grilled Chicken

Reviewed: Jul. 12, 2011
I'd give this more stars if I could! I wondered what to do with the chicken breast I had taken out early in the day. I only marinated for an hour and a half or so, boiled up the remaining marinade and basted the chicken breast on the grill. Oh...my...gosh...This is the only way I'll grill my chicken anymore. I made this exactly as stated, reducing the serving size to 2, and it was perfect!
