Cheese Cake Cups

Reviewed: Mar. 21, 2003
A+ Recipe!! Made this early yesterday morning for a winter sports banquet last night. Vanilla Wafers have shunk over the years, so I crushed 2-1/2 cups, added 1/4 cup melted margarine and pressed 1 T into each paper liner. Also as per previous reviewer, I added 1 cup sour cream and 1/4 cup more sugar to the cream cheese mix and got 20 wonderful cups. Topped 1/2 with 1 T blueberry pie filling and the other 1/2 with 1 T cherry pie filling....blue and red, my kids HS school colors. First dessert to disappear!! Thanks for sharing this one Diana. It's been printed and filed for lots of future use.

Apple Strudel Muffins

Reviewed: Feb. 26, 2003
Big hit! Made these to go with Asparagus Chicken and Salad for daughter's birthday dinner. Used paper liners, 2 cups of chopped apple and 1/4 cup cinnamon applesauce in batter, as previously suggested. Moist and delicious! I did get about 15 muffins, maybe due to additional ingredients mentioned above. Either way, they were great. Hubby took remaining 4 to work the next day to enjoy for coffee break. Thanks Nikki for this keeper recipe.

Chicken, Stuffing and Green Bean Casserole

Reviewed: Mar. 5, 2003
Hubby and kids loved this! I doubled chicken amounts (leftovers from chicken fry a couple nights earlier), added a packet of dry turkey gravy with 1 soup can of water....mixed gravy, water and soup together before adding turkey, beans and spices. Also, I used a whole cannister of chicken stuffing mix from Wal-mart. Cheese didn't seem to add much. Next time I may try adding it to the chicken/soup/etc mixture. But kids did top with more cheese; hubby and I didn't. Will add to menu rotation...very well received. Thanks Cathy!

Clam Chowder Canadian Military Style

Reviewed: Mar. 5, 2003
Good recipe! 4 out of 5 people in our house loved this; 15yo son wouldn't even try it, thinks clams are slimy and gross. I used leftover boiled potatoes that I mashed slightly with potato masher before adding clams when rest of soup had heated up. I used previous reviewers ideas of using Old Bay Seasoning and Basil, as well as a small bottle of Clam Juice and 3 cans of minced clams. Served it with Pecan Sticky Buns by Stefanie Sellars. Wonderful, hearty meal. Thanks Gail.

Bread Machine Rolls

Reviewed: Mar. 8, 2003
These were the BEST, would give them more stars if possible! Made them to go with Beef Barley Stew and family of 5 gorged themselves on these. Only changes-took previous reviewers idea and used 13x9 pan, taked 10 minutes and got 12 nice size rolls. Also, didn't have an egg, so I brushed tops with butter when they came out of the oven. Will be using this regularly...once a week or more. Thanks Kay, this is a winner!

Banana Split Cheesecake

Reviewed: Mar. 10, 2003
Another hit with my family of 5!! Halved the recipe, cuz only had 1 block of cream cheese. Did like previous reviewer suggested-added 1 tsp vanilla to filling and drizzled freezer strawberry jam over filling before bananas, then topped with fruit and set out chocolate syrup, caramel ice cream topping and chopped peanuts for everyone to finish their piece according to their tastes. YUMMY--brought summer to frozen Midwest!! Can't wait for summer and a whole 13x9 of this!

Baked Honey Mustard Chicken

Reviewed: Mar. 13, 2003
Just wanted to add this family of 5's thumbs up for this recipe!!! I doubled the marinade; marinated 6 CB and 4 BL, SL thighs for 6 hours; dumped all in 13x9 pan and baked 45 minutes, turning every 15 minutes. Served with garlic mashed potatoes from this site, squash and salad. Have already added this to our menu rotation. It's a keeper!! Thanks Mary Bane.

Creamy Italian Dressing I

Reviewed: Mar. 15, 2003
A+++++ Made this yesterday afternoon to serve on the side with spaghetti sauce and ranch dressing for Hoagie Bake. This dressing is GREAT, couldn't find bottled brand, had all the ingredients, and used my Betty Crocker hand blender. I did add a couple tablespoons of milk to thin it a little more and cut back sugar to 2 tsp per a previous reviewer. Perfect! Thanks for sharing Cathy, it'll be a regular at our house.

Gilbert's Potatoes

Reviewed: Mar. 17, 2003
Awesome side dish for the Grill!!! Spring-like temps had us grilling out yesterday and we needed a side dish for brats/burgers, salad and deviled eggs. This was it. Only things I did different--used 1/2 cup margarine and subbed shredded cheese for American slices. Will be using this frequently from now on.....Yummy! Thanks Jen, this is a wonderful, easy keeper.

Beef or Chicken Marinade

Reviewed: Mar. 26, 2003
GREAT! Followed recipe to a tee...marinated both t-bone steaks and boneless chix breasts to grill out over the weekend. Beef could've marinated longer, but the chicken was wonderful and flavorful. Will use regularly, have ingredients on hand always.

Cinnamon Chip Applesauce Coffeecake

Reviewed: Mar. 26, 2003
Loved this Coffeecake! Made it this weekend, used cinnamon applesauce-about 1 cup. Didn't have pecans or walnuts, so I added an extra 1/2 cup mini cinnamon chips-which are available at a local Amish bulk food store. Will make again, whole family enjoyed several pieces each and guys at hubby's work gobbled up the remaining 4 pieces the next day for coffee break.

Sweet Dinner Rolls

Reviewed: Mar. 26, 2003
A+ Recipe. Would give this more than 5 stars if possible. Rolls used to be flat (tho flavorful) hockey pucks and became a family joke. This recipe and the Bread Machine Rolls at this site changed all that for me. These were doughy and yeasty and buttery and wonderful. Rolled into 12 balls, placed in 13x9 pan to rest for 1 hour, then baked for 12 minutes. They rose up beautifully and this family of 5 ate 2 each and gave them 2 thumbs up. Will become a weekly regular for us. Thanks Donna.

Cathy's Banana Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 26, 2003
Just like Cathy promised, moist and delicious. I used very over-ripe bananas, cut sugar to 1 cup. Used only 1 9x5 loaf pan. Bread was great, easily replaces the Betty Crocker standard I've used for 20 years.

Peanut Butter Cornflake Crunch Bars

Reviewed: Mar. 31, 2003
This is my husband's favorite quick treat that my 14yo daughter enjoys making. We crust cornflakes and it measures around 8 cups and drop them in generous tablespoons. On the run, hubby considers them a good breakfast!

Hoagie Bake

Reviewed: Mar. 15, 2003
Another Great Recipe! Made this for dinner last night, as is, with a few substitutions--used just ham and red-fat salami, swapped mozzarella for provolone, cut the egg to just 1, and added garlic powder to sprinkle on the top. Wonderful! Can't wait to try it with bread machine pizza dough as others have suggested. We dipped ours in Creamy Italian Dressing, Spag Sauce, and ranch dressing. Just enough for this family of 5. Thanks Cindy it's a definite keeper!!!

Tomato Chicken Parmesan

Reviewed: Feb. 26, 2003
This has become standard fare at our house! Very easy and economical and tasty. I use a combo of pounded-thin breasts and boneless, skinless thighs--hubby's not fond of white meat. Serve with salad and breadsticks or garlic bread and you've got a complete, satisfying meal! Thanks Alicia

Asparagus Chicken

Reviewed: Feb. 26, 2003
this was wonderful! made it for my daughter's 18th birthday party with our family and grandma. Used Gloria Pitzer's easy hollandaise sauce, which uses no egg yolks or butter (think lite mayo). I also baked chicken with sauce, then put 4-5 microwaved asparagus spears along out sides of 13x9 pan, sprinkled with combo of shredded cheeses. Served with boiled potatoes which was used to savor sauce, salad and apple strudel muffins (from this site). Big hit, will be used for those special occasions to WOW guests. Thanks Teck.

Banana Cake VI

Reviewed: Feb. 17, 2003
this cake has wonderful flavor. Halved frosting like previous reviewers suggested and my hubby usually doesn't care for it. First night, it rec'd 3 stars; after sitting overnight in the frig to chill really well...it rec'd 5+ stars and hubby said it would be even better with more of that scrumptious frosting....go figure! He took 2 large pieces to work today for coffee bread. Ours rose to 3" high! Try this, you won't be sorry. Thanks for the great recipe.

Pecan Sticky Buns

Reviewed: Mar. 5, 2003
YUMMMMMMMMY...Gooey and sticky, just like a pecan buns should be! Scaled ingredients to fit into my bread machine and used dough cycle. Used combo of pecans and walnuts, which is what I had on hand. I spread more than 1 T butter on dough, more like 2-3 T. Used 13x9 pan instead of 2-9" round pans and baked 25 minutes. Dough rose high and house smelled wonderful while they baked. This recipe goes into our permanent rotation to be used frequently.
