Poppy Seed Salad Dressing

Reviewed: Jan. 24, 2010
Amazing! Just like other reviewers, I cut the sugar down to 1/2 c. and it was still sweet. This was beyond easy to make and. I served it over a green salad full of different veggies and it was perfect. Thanks for the recipe!

Cinnamon-Raisin Granola

Reviewed: Feb. 23, 2009
Great starter recipe. I usually add wheat germ, flax seed, and sliced almonds. When it's done I leave it plain, toss in some craisans, (we're not a raisan family, so...) or even dark mini chocolate chips. This is the healthiest version I've found, and my entire family LOVES it! Thanks for the recipe

Oatmeal Waffles

Reviewed: Jan. 7, 2009
These are AMAZING! I substituted whole wheat flour, cut the butter in half, and used skim milk. Score! My picky 3 year old daughter downed hers as well. Double score! Thanks SO much for this recipe, they are going in our "recipe regular" file!

Good Old Fashioned Pancakes

Reviewed: Feb. 15, 2008
These are amazing! They taste like the pancakes from a "famous" local diner here-without the grease! I cut back on the baking powder to 3 tsp., cut the salt back to 1/2 to 3/4 and added 1 tsp. vanilla. I also followed previous reviewers' advice and warmed up the milk to avoid cooling the butter into clumps. Thanks for the recipe!

Chicken Tortilla Soup I

Reviewed: Jan. 14, 2008
Amazing! I love LOVE this soup. It's even better the next day as leftovers-that's saying something! Like other reviewers, I leave out the hominy-no reason, other than this is usually a recipe I make on a whim, and I don't have hominy laying around the house. If I'm in a huge rush, I just pick up a roasted chicken from the store and shred that. Serve with cornbread-HEAVEN!It's seriously one of my favorite meals.

Homesteader Cornbread

Reviewed: Aug. 20, 2007
Perfect! Ended up only cooking it for 25 minutes-I'm glad I checked it! Who needs store bought mixes? This was too easy...

Melt In Your Mouth Toffee

Reviewed: Dec. 7, 2006
I also have made this recipe several times and get a great result each time. I use pecans instead of walnuts, (personal preference!) I use a jelly roll pan sprayed with cooking spray, and I put the chocolate and nuts on top, let it set, then flip it over on wax paper and put chocolate and nuts on the other side. I gave it to my neighbors for Christmas gifts and I just had a call from one of them who said they ate the entire bag by themself in a matter of minutes. i have to laugh at some of these reviews-use a good thermometer! Or heck, USE a thermometer! It makes all the difference

New England Clam Chowder I

Reviewed: Dec. 7, 2006
This soup was awesome! I made a couple changes-I cooked the potatoes for a bit longer-I added 2 stalks of chopped celery while cooking the potatoes, and I did thicken the sauce with some mashed up potatoes and a LITTLE bit of flour, and I used 1 can of minced clams and 1 can of chopped. It turned out amazing! But it did have a potato soup kind-of taste, so next time I'm going to cook the potatoes in clam juice, and probably add one more can of minced clams. (My husband LOVES them.) All in all, a great recipe! Thanks for sharing

Anaheim Fish Tacos

Reviewed: Jul. 5, 2006
My husband and I loved this! I too, used a Pobolono (sp?) pepper-Anahiem wasn't available-and I used onion instead of a leek. Also, I didn't realize it until I was supposed to add it-I was out of cumin. I used a little bit of chili powder instead. Like other reviewers, I drained it before putting it in the tortillas. Oh, and we used flour tortillas because my husband doesn't like corn tortillas. Oh ya, and I also added canned diced tomatos (drained) just because I ran out of time. Even after all those changes it was SO good, and not too spicy at all! I served it with a little sour cream, cheese, and avocado. Healthy and fast-what a combination! Thanks for the recipe!

Authentic Mexican Tortillas

Reviewed: Jun. 8, 2006
These were really good, and turned out great. There would just be a couple things I would change. Less salt-I think 1 tsp. would do it. Also, the shortening was a little overpowering-I would probably do 1/4 c. shortening and 1/4 c. butter, or something to that affect. I used really hot water, rolled them paper thin, and only cooked them 30-40 seconds a side. My first I cooked the full minute on each side and it came out crispy.. These were easy and cheap to make, and I think with a little tweaking I'll have the perfect recipe for tortillas! Thanks!

Iced Pumpkin Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 24, 2005
Great recipe! I also added chocolate chips, since I can't imagine Pumpkin cookies without them! Another really good icing idea-melt some almond bark and drizzle that on the top instead of the icing. It is soo good, and I always get tons of requests for them!

Quick Gnocchi

Reviewed: Mar. 27, 2003
I did not like this recipe! The problem may be that I've never had homemade gnocchi before, but they stuck to my teeth and made quite a mess preparing them. My husband, who loves gnocchi, didn't even finish his! Sorry!

Clone of a Cinnabon

Reviewed: Mar. 27, 2003
These were great! Couple things-although the cinnamon roll itself didn't taste exactly like Cinnabon, the frosting was a dead on hit! I had a small problem with all the cinnamon/sugar mixture running down to the bottom of the cinnamon roll, so the inside wasn't as gooey and cinnamon/sugary as I hoped. I think I just need to roll the dough tighter, and I could cut back on the butter a tad. I did have to add a little more cinnamon sugar mixture. They were a huge hit, and will be my forever cinnamon roll recipe!

Slow-Cooker Barbecue Ribs

Reviewed: Feb. 18, 2003
OH MY GOSH--these were the most incredible ribs I have ever tasted, in or out of a restaraunt! I followed other reviewers' advice and substituted bbq sauce for the ketchup, (2 cups) and ketchup for the chili sauce. (1 cup) I cut back on the vinegar to 2 1/2 Tbsp. just because I thought 4 Tbsp. was a lot. I also left out the hot sauce, simply because I didn't have any on hand. I used boneless Country Style Ribs. I couldn't get them out of the crock pot in one piece, they were soo tender! Thank you so much for this recipe, it is definitely one of the BEST on this site!!! I would HIGHLY reccommend trying this one! :)

Crispy Corn and Rice Treats

We've been making this recipe in our family for years, although they're called "Muddy Buddies" in our house! They make a great road trip and camping snack, and it's incredibly easy to make!

Ten Minute Szechuan Chicken

Reviewed: Jan. 29, 2003
I wasn't impressed with this recipe at all. I will say, it looked pretty, but the soy sauce was WAY too overpowering, and the chicken tasted bitter. I even tried adding a little more sugar, but it still tasted like it had soaked in vinegar and soy sauce. I definitely won't be making this again.

Mexican Style Dip

Reviewed: Jan. 27, 2003
This dip was great and extremely easy to make. I made it for our Superbowl party, and it dissapeared quick! I would reccommend serving it with Corn Chips, or some sort of dipping chip, because the dip is really deep, and you get the full effect with all layers on your chip! Also, we tried it with Refried Beans on top of the cream cheese and loved it. We'll definitely make this one again!

Yeast Raised Christmas Waffles

Reviewed: Jan. 27, 2003
This recipe was a little time consuming for the end result. They tasted great, but not a whole lot different from, say, Bisquick. My husband couldn't even tell the difference. But, they were still really good. I just don't know if they're different enough to make the prep time worth it. Also, if you're looking for a crisp waffle, this isn't the recipe, But I like mine soft. I made it the night before and let it rise in the fridge-still turned out fine. It did make more waffles than the recipe indicated, which wasn't a problem! I made the rest up and froze them. I tried one today after popping it in the toaster and it still tasted great! I would probably make this again, but only if I have time to kill.

Award Winning Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Jan. 22, 2003
These were fabulous! I was a little nervous, with no salt, but the pudding took care of it! They looked beautiful and remained soft the entire time. Mine were done after 11 minutes, so watch the edges carefully. This makes a TON of cookies-I cut the recipe in half and it still turned out great! It's my new choc. chip cookie recipe! Thanks!

Jay's Signature Pizza Crust

Reviewed: Jan. 22, 2003
This crust was great! I got lots of compliments on it, and it came out perfectly. It was very easy to make, with ingredients I already had. I'll definitely be making this in the future. Also, I had to add about 1/2 c. extra flour, but it turned out great! Thanks! :)
