Easy Apple Crisp

Reviewed: Nov. 5, 2007
This was delicious and easy. I did use some suggestions from reviewers. I sprinkled the apples with a little cinnamon, nutmeg and sugar mixture. Also I decreased the water to maybe 1/3 cup because I was using home-grown Haralson's that are really juicy. The apples came out really good. Also I decreased the brown sugar to 3/4 cup and found it really sweet. I want to decrease it a little more next time but not sure if that would affect the texture of the crumbs. I also cut the baking time to 40 mins and it was perfect.

Frogmore Stew

Reviewed: Sep. 4, 2007
This was delicious!! We had 3 families for our Labor day cookout and it was so fun. Everyone contributed a couple of ingredients making it kind of like a potluck. We did add some halved onions to the pot also. We also used regular smoked sausage & Kielbasa & added a few shakes of red pepper flakes. Ate it on the picnic table with newspaper and the kids thought that was sooo cool & fun. Can't wait to make again.

Quesadilla Jalapeno Spread

Reviewed: Jun. 16, 2007
This is awsome. I don't think I've had Taco Bell's so I can't compare but tastes like somehting you would find there. I didn't measure the peppers or the juice so I got a nice sauce not a spread. I also used some of the onions that came in the can. Made our Ham & Cheese Quesadillas delicious. Thanks

Honey Roasted Red Potatoes

Reviewed: May 10, 2007
I've been making these for a long time. I guess I forgot to rate them. These are really good but I cut my potatoes smaller. I do crank up the oven to 400 and cook an extra 15-20 mins or until they are tender.

Amazing Pecan Coffee Cake

Reviewed: Apr. 24, 2007
I will not make this again. First the cake never rised, all the topping sank to the bottom and it stuck to the unneccesary foil despite my greasing it. I have not tasted it yet because I don't feel like picking and scraping it off the foil. Guess we'll have to eat it in bowls with spoons. Sorry

Sesame Shrimp Stir-Fry

Reviewed: Feb. 24, 2007
This was good but I made a few changes. I marinated the shrimp for 2 hrs. I didn't have sesame seeds so I used just a bit of sesame oil and used vegetable oil to fry, not crazy about sesame oil. I used frozen stir fry vegs. I sauteed them first for 4 mins, removed from pan, sauteed shrimp & grn onions, returned vegs. to pan and added Terriyaki sauce. I used less chicken broth mix because it was loosing it's flavor but I felt like it needed more sauce for the rice. We had to put soy sauce on while eating just for a little more flavor. Overall a really good recipe.

Strawberry Muffins

Reviewed: Feb. 22, 2007
Whoa what went wrong with mine. I used frozen berries and they turned out awful. They are bland and the berries turned to brown slime. If they aren't better after completely cooling I will have to throw them away.

Sour Cream Coffee Cake IV

Reviewed: Feb. 15, 2007
Really good despite my mistake. I put all the topping in the middle by accident. I did add a little almond extract and will probably add some vanilla next time as it was a wee bit bland. But overall easy and delicious.

B and L's Strawberry Smoothie

Reviewed: Feb. 11, 2007
Really delicious. Families first smoothie. I scaled it to 8 servings for 2 adults/3 kids. Made a whole blender full and there's nothing left. I did make some changes like using whole frozen unsweetened strawberries(added a few x-tra too), used light strawberry yogurt and a little less sugar, didn't measure the vanilla. I did not add the ice because the berries were frozen. Kids are begging to make it again soon.

Glazed Chicken Wings

Reviewed: Feb. 9, 2007
Absolutely delicious. My son who doesn't like anything bbq'd devoured them. I used 22 frozen bagged wings and had enough sauce for at least double that. I ended up not using all the sauce. I transfered them to a cookie sheet to get browned and sticky towards the end. I also basted them frequently through out cooking. I baked them plain for 20 mins first, drained off accumulated juices then poured on sauce.

Oven-Barbecued Pork Chops

Reviewed: Feb. 7, 2007
Pretty good and easy. I used half Cider vinegar and found it to tangy so I added a couple more spoons of brown sugar and a blob of honey. A little garlic and onion powder too. I felt when I was eating it really needed salt. I used 2 really big pork steaks. Poured half the sauce on, drained accumulated liquid after 20 mins and then poured the rest of the sauce on and finished baking. Would make again.

Italian Sausage Soup

Reviewed: Feb. 6, 2007
Delicious. I doubled the recipe. I pretty much made it exactley. I realized when I started I had bought regular pork sausage so I added a few shakes of italian season while it was browning, added the garlic when it was almost done browning. I used water/beef boullion instead of broth. Ground up the tomatoes a little bit in a food processor. Did not add the salt was perfect without it.

Pasta Sauce with Italian Sausage

Reviewed: Jan. 22, 2007
This was good. I doubled the recipe but only used 1/2lb sausage and 1 lb of hamburger. I used ground sausage and browned it with the hamburger. The sausage was really salty so I only added a shake of garlic salt. Family said the tomatoes were too many & too chunky so I think I will use crushed next time. But overall a good recipe.

Banana Crumb Muffins

Reviewed: Jan. 10, 2007
These were good but tasted a little bitter like baking powder/soda. Maybe it's just me though. The streusel is perfect. I did add a splash of vanilla. I scaled the recipe to 15 muffins and made them in 12 texas size pans.

Banana Pancakes I

Reviewed: Jan. 7, 2007
Nope couldn't get past the texture. 2 stars for texture, 4 for taste. My hubby took one bite and spit it out. Kids ate a couple though and said they just couldn't do it anymore. I only made 8 to try and threw the rest of the batter out, a double batch. I suggest having some other breakfast on standby, just in case. Now it's 10 a.m. and hubby is out scrambling to get bread for french toast.

Pancakes I

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2006
Excellent. I've been using the Good old Fashioned Pancakes recipe from this site for ever and found this one to be much much better. Batter was perfect. Looks thin when you put it on the griddle but fluffs up so nicely. I use a little shortening on the griddle so they don't stick. My new favorite pancake recipe.

Monster Cookies VI

Reviewed: Nov. 12, 2006
Five stars for taste, 4 stars for everything else. They were kind of crumbly and wanted to fall apart when removing from pan. Also the first batch stuck so I had to well grease the pan. Was hard to mix as well and I think the last pan had more baking soda because it didn't mix in very well despite mixing for 10 mins.

Meatball Sandwich

Reviewed: Nov. 6, 2006
I loved these as well as the kids. I made them on individual hoagie type rolls instead. Used mozzarela also. After putting the meatballs on the subs I served the remaining spaghetti sauce in bowls for dipping. Next time I will also add a pinch of salt to the meatballs.
