About this Cook
I am Carrie -- a twenty year old Army wife. Home is where my husband is, which, currently, is in Mannheim, Germany. The two of us were raised in Kentucky and shared the dream to leave it. The Army was never how I pictured escape, but so far it has treated us well. I am half way through a degree in English Literature, awaiting transfer to an online university. My marriage and subsequent international move interrupted previous career plans, though not unpleasantly. I hope one day to pick up where I left off on the road to a well-paid job, but for now I am perfectly content living out a love story in Europe. I have always been a romantic. I read anything I get my hands on. I write every day. I want to see every inch of the world. I love with my whole heart. I bask in the sunshine and drink too much tea. I believe in the power of words, but more so in the power of a smile. These are the important things.
My favorite things to cook
Pasta, pasta, pasta! I also love to bake.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Christmas time in my family means on thing...candy! My mother, grandmother and I get together every year to whip up tons of confections for the annual Christmas party. This tradition is the base ingredient in a huge portion of my childhood (and even adulthood) memories.
My cooking tragedies
Italian buttercream will kill me one day. I've yet to make it successfully...but I will not accept defeat!

Mardi Gras King Cake
This was awesome! I've never had a traditional King Cake before, so I can't judge how authentic it tastes, but I CAN say that it's pretty darn delicious. I followed the recipe exactly, with one exception. I didn't have any raisins or nuts on hand, so I left those out. This baked through in about 18 minutes (no where near 30!), and the filling was wonderfully gooey and rich. I agree with some of the other reviewers...this would make a great breakfast bread! I can't wait to make this again for friends.

Blackberry Muffins
I made these according to the recipe, but was a little short on brown sugar. They were really good, and I know I'll like them even more when I make them next, with a little extra sweetness. Definitely a recipe to try out!

Butterscotch Brownies II
These were awesome! I followed the recipe exactly, and they turned out perfect. I did leave off the frosting because I'm running low on confectioners sugar, but in my opinion the brownies didn't need the extra sweetness anyhow. Thanks for sharing a great recipe!
