Of course I googled prior to pitting my newly picked nanking cherries, and I found little to help me on my way.  In fact, I was fortunate to find a cake recipe to use them with, but from reading I guess you can use these small cherries in pies, jellies, candies and even to create an extract. … MORE

About this Cook
September 2011 Allrecipes.com has been one of my favorite places to go to find nice recipes, and I was a free subscriber until this year. I decided to become a paid member because I enjoy cooking so much and I love to write. This site is dedicated to our grandchildren, Abby, Faith, Gracie, Matthew and soon to be born, Ellie. My husband and I find as we become more seasoned through time, that we enjoy foods less salty and spicy. We enjoy experimenting with fresh herbs, as well as dried, and are often amazed at the nutritional value of many of our herb choices. I will add a bit of information concerning the nutrition of ingredients, when warranted, as I put up various recipes.

Potato, Parsnip, and Cabbage Soup
My husband and I made this dish for the first time, together. It was a lot of fun preparing as my husband is just a 'cut-up' himself! Sorry more of you cooks don't have this ingredient to add to your dishes! The taste is very nice, we used plain ol' applesauce from a can. Also, instead of truffle oil we just used olive oil. My husband add more garlic to this dish that what was called for (he always does this!) He enjoyed blending the first part as required, and was very impressed with the way it looked upon return to the pan. We are simmering it right now, sipping it a little here and there. It's going to be fantastic. We will serve this as a side dish to main dinners and enjoy it as comfort food, each night, in front of the TV until it's gone. Thanks so much. :))

Roasted Garlic Mashed Potatoes
Thank you for sharing this recipe. I love mashed potatoes and your recipe is very nice. However, I would reduce the cooking time just a tad. It's going to take the new cook time to figure out when her/his potatoes are cooked to the degree of tenderness they are striving to obtain. I suggest people experiment with timing. I like to stop my potatoes before the water gets cloudy or the potatoes fall apart when poked with a fork. I never was one for timing things. LOL
