I was born and raised in Maine, USA and after high school I joined the U.S. Army Veterinary Corps working as a veterinary technician with the military working dogs. While in the service I met my wonderful husband, who is in the Air Force. I recently completed my 4 years of service and after some time off I am planning to attend college full time for a degree in biology. My favorite hobbies are hiking/geocaching and competing in competitive obedience with my dog. Our little family also includes a cat and two ferrets.
My favorite things to cook
I love making Shepherd's Pie, it's an easy dish that my husband and I both love.
My favorite family cooking traditions
When I was a child it was uncommon for us to have a big, home-cooked meal unless it was Thanksgiving. Since that was our big meal for the year I love going all-out when cooking Thanksgiving dinner for my husband and myself.
My cooking triumphs
Being relatively new to cooking I view every successful dinner as a triumph.
My cooking tragedies
The first time I made beef stew I had read some reviews that said to coat the beef in some flour and pepper before browning. What I didn't realize was that, with the pepper directly on the beef, the pepper called for in the recipe should have been reduced or removed entirely. The stew came out way too peppery so I tried to thin it with water...so the broth ended up tasting like water with pepper in it.
