About this Cook
I received as an inheritance from my grandmother, thousands of her hand written recipes she had collected over her lifetime. What a treasure!!! I have been putting them onto a disc based collection over time and it is a real source of satisfaction for our family to enjoy some great home made meals, many things are traditional in our family. I wish my grandma knew how much we appreciate and enjoy them today, as she is no longer with us. The best thing about it is that many of these recipes are old, having been acquired from people she knew long before the internet so they don't require proprietary brand name ingredients pushed from various large food processing industry manufacturers but are instead truly wonderful wholesome foods cooked from scratch. If you want a copy, I am sharing them for a modest charge to cover some of my development time and materials.
My favorite things to cook
I love to cook main courses, caseroles, meat, and fish dishes. I love salads, sauces, and dressings. I have some restraunt experience in mexican and itallian dishes so I do those pretty good, but I enjoy trying new things and like to adapt and cook from the heart. Having spent some time living in south American, I picked up a taste of Brazillian cooking, and don't mind some German dishes too. I own three dutch ovens and really enjoy doing that whole thing too.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I cook for my family as often as I can and find it relaxing. I enjoy cooking for company and its kind of fun showing off by making a good meal now and then...
My cooking triumphs
I won a cook off at a church event for brazillian coxinhas that everyone thought was awesome.
My cooking tragedies
I once tried some other unproven source for chili powder and it ended up being the hottest mexican dish that we never ate.

Brazilian Chicken with Coconut Milk
Having made this a couple times now, its official, I like it. Of course having lived in Brazil, that tempts me to get a little tropical taste now and then. A real brazillian would serve this over rice as I did, and its not too bad. My kids were a little hesitant, but for the most part it won them over. I substituted roasted anaheims for Jalapeno peppers and in absense of fresh ginger, used a little powdered and worked out great too. Good flavor.

Strawberry Shortcake
A hint dry, but flavorful and with good texture, even when the cake was cut in half.

Deep Fried Pork Steak
Has a nice texture and flavor. I also dipped and soaked it in buttermilk before patting in the breading. It was great and cooked fairly fast in oil. Its good enough for company any day. Its a great change.
