This is one of the most adaptable recipes I have ever found. I used our left over ham bone (plus a little extra) from xmas tossed the ingredients from the first half of the recipe into the slow cooker( it was a new toy) let it go on high until it boiled (just about 3 hours or so) then I carved the ham off the bone. I made the white sauce as per the instructions, when that was done I added it to the slow cooker, I left it to simmer for only 20min. I did end up thickening the soup with some potatoe flakes. My boys loved it and I got to use my new slow cooker so everyone was happy.
