Meatball Nirvana

Reviewed: Jan. 12, 2013
These were some pretty tasty meatballs !! Not wanting the "crunchy" onion as some reviewers mentioned...I sauteed the chopped onion in two Tbls. of butter - used crushed up New York Roasted Garlic Bagel Crisps for the bread crumbs - a few shots of Tapatio for the hot sauce - an egg instead of milk - and up'ed the Parmesan Cheese to 1/2 cup. So good that I dreamt of a meatball sandwich for the next day...but nope...not one meatball left :(

Ham and Beans

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2013
Excellent...provided the brown sugar is cut in half or less ! As the majority of reviewers of this recipe have stated...1/2 cup brown sugar is just too much (unless major sweetness is what you seek) - I cut the brown sugar to a scant 1/4 cup...and honestly could have gone less. Thank you fellow reviewers...for if I had not read your reviews, I would have ruined a perfectly good leftover Christmas ham !!

Cheesy Ham and Hash Brown Casserole

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2013
This was very good - Sharp Cheddar Cheese is a must for bringing out the "cheese" flavor - unfortunately...our frozen hash browns come in only 28oz bags...I went with that and found it really needed those additional 4oz - Nonetheless...I'll be making this again !!

Best Green Bean Casserole

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2012
Excellent !! I too followed other reviewers suggestions - mixed all the cheese and 3oz of the french fried onions with the soup and beans...added about 1/2 can loosely chopped water chestnuts...a couple shots/splashes soy sauce...heavy sprinkle garlic powder and about 1/4 tsp black pepper - baked at 350 for about 25 minutes..then added the remainder of the french fried onions to the top and back in the oven for about 12 more minutes - Turned out to be the best green bean casserole ever !!

Bacon Wrapped Smokies

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2012
One word "YUM-BO" !! Note: If you choose to keep these little puppies warm in the crockpot after cooking...set your crockpot on "Warm" not on "Low" (a mistake I made in the Christmas craziness...even still they were all eaten up)

Swedish Meatballs I

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2012
Part of the fun of this site is reading other reviewers comments and tweaks - we can all pretty much look at a recipe and know if we'd like to add something to fit our personal tastes...tho sometimes we're not exactly sure what to add or how much...there's where the other reviewers come in - and all I can say is "Thank you everyone out there !" I too made only the sauce from this recipe...with a few tweaks from other reviewers - added one small finely diced onion with two large finely grated cloves of garlic sauteed in butter..added to two cans of Cream of Mushroom soup...kept the amount of one can evaporated milk...about 8 to 10 oz sour cream...one tablespoon Worcestershire sauce...a few good shakes of black pepper...a pinch of salt - And let me tell you...this sauce is the bomb !...turned out something similar to what my Mom made for us as kids...tho she called it Russian Meatballs - therefore...I am rating this recipe 5 stars as an excellent base.

Slow Cooker Chicken Stroganoff

Reviewed: Jul. 6, 2012
Simply Delicious !! I have made chicken stroganoff in more ways than I can count - but none compare to this !! Only change I made was to add a bit of milk to reach the consistency I desired and used chicken breast tenders instead of cubing...though I'm sure that did not alter the taste. This recipe and method is an absolute winner - easy and oh so yummy !!

Simple Hamburger Stroganoff

Reviewed: May 23, 2012
This is SOS at it's finest !! Coming from a military family...SOS was a mainstay on our table when I was growing up...and have continued this tradition with my own family - tho..never before had I added cream cheese nor packaged dry brown gravy mix...both were a nice addition - plus...I don't separate the ingredients...everything except what I'm putting it over (noodles or rice or toast..etc) is done in one pan with the sour cream added only within the last ten minutes of final simmer - and I used fresh mushrooms...so did add more milk to reach the consistency I wanted. Simply Yumbo !!

Slow Cooker Salisbury Steak

Reviewed: Mar. 29, 2012
Made meatballs instead of patties...had to scale down a bit on the meat..used only a pound and a half ground round, with only half of a package of Beefy Onion dry soup mix as well as added a few good dashes of Spicy Monterey Steak seasoning and an egg - Kept the sauce same. It's a Keeper !!

Charleston Breakfast Casserole

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2012
No Joke - You can play with this recipe !! I didn't have croutons nor hash browns...tho..I had three small white rose potatoes - diced and seasoned them up with with seasoning salt and black pepper...then sauteed with some finely chopped onions and a couple minced garlic cloves in the butter - let cool...then put in bottom of baking dish (no need to grease or spray dish itself)...then egg mixture...then bacon - added cheese on top for only a few minutes at the very end of cooking time - outcome not greasy whatsoever - just simply delicious !!

Basic Ham and Bean Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 31, 2011
Wonderful Soup !! Kept pretty much to the recipe...tho..did saute onions, celery and minced garlic in butter prior to adding and did substitute chicken stock for 3/4 of the water..plus twice as much veggies along with three small diced white rose potatoes as well...and added some potato flakes to thicken a bit at the end - increased white pepper by double but added no salt - cooked in crockpot all day first few hrs on high..then the rest on low..about 10 hrs total - house smelled heavenly all day and the soup was just to die for !! (used 3 cans small white beans...drained and rinsed) Simply Excellent !!

Leftover Turkey Cheesecake

Simply Scrumptious - all the goodies of Thanksgiving rolled up into one tasty dish !! Used a 9x9 Pyrex instead of a pie pan which required double the stuffing - followed the recipe to the letter on everything else - loved every mouthful....and leftovers of this leftover were wonderful !!

Mushroom Slow Cooker Roast Beef

Reviewed: Dec. 11, 2011
Worked extremely well with Bone-In Beef Ribs - used "New Castle" beer and "Beefy Onion" dry soup mix (also sprinkled Montreal Spicy Steak seasoning on ribs before the onion soup mix) - 9 hours later...they were done to perfection - continually basting with the fat side up - the flavor was oh so unbelievably wonderful ! Perfect Dinner...well worth the wait and super easy to throw together !! Simply Excellent !!

Savory Crescent Chicken

Reviewed: Nov. 21, 2011
Made these little tasty "Treats 'n Eats" last night - YUMBO !! The only change I made was dicing up a bunch of green onions instead of using minced - omitted the Pimentos and milk - then followed the "Folding and Flip" suggestion from Chef Joy's Aug 13, 2009 review - worked like a charm - oven temp and time right on perfect !! After making these once and seeing how easy and fun they are - your mind just races thinking about all the other goodies you could stuff these with !! Too Fun !! P.S....Leftover Thanksgiving Turkey works too !!!
