About this Cook
I'm a student living in Oklahoma, but I'm from the DFW area. Cooking is one of my favorite pastimes and I'm kind of a food snob.
My favorite things to cook
I love to cook custards- mostly creme brulée and flan. I also like making wine based sauces for chicken- like chicken marsala. I do a lot of international cuisine- mostly Indian, Thai, French, and Italian.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Thanksgiving dinner- we eat the traditional sort of food but the more important thing is having the whole family together.
My cooking triumphs
I made a chocolate soufflé with a chocolate custard sauce for a boy and I was terrified about making the soufflé because of all the difficulties people have with them falling and such. It turned out great- the guy loved it and it didn't fall!
My cooking tragedies
Recently making a Thai dipping sauce for chicken skewers ended up as a disaster - I thought a chili lime sauce would be appealing, so I used some bird's eye pepper (I'm not familiar with peppers, really) mixed with some fish sauce (I had never used it before) and other seasonings. I boiled them all in a pot - it reminded me of when I was a kid and had a plastic purse which I filled it with rolly-pollies and left it outside on a hot day. Nasty smell. The stench filled my house. I didn't even bother tasting it.

Easy Sugar Cookies
Great basic sugar cookie! I reduced the flour by 1/4 c and used 2 teaspoons of vanilla for flavor. I rolled these in a little sugar and put the pan in the freezer for 30 min before placing them in the oven for a little over 8 min. I'm a little confused by the size of cookie that the recipe suggests - 1 tsp is SO tiny! Mine were about 4x that and they were normal sized cookies! The cookies were crispy on the outside and chewy in the middle!

Mom's Chicken Cacciatore
4 stars since it needed some changes, but with the changes, I might give it 5. The sauce was very thin, so I added a 6 oz can of tomato, 8 oz of tomato sauce, and a little bit more wine. From the advice of other reviewers, I used red wine instead of white. I garnished this with fresh chopped parsley.

Berry Delicious
Yay for healthy things that taste good! I made one alteration - I used Greek plain yogurt, which gave it a really nice consistency. Next time I'll definitely try strawberry yogurt though. This probably doesn't need the added sugar unless you use plain yogurt.
