So Many Recipes, So Little Time...

The End of 2012 and Formerly Faceless Recipes

I know there have been a few readers who, from time to time, would question when the next Formerly Faceless Recipes blog would show up.

I have decided to stop writing the blog.

The Allrecipes Ambassadors are in charge of giving faces to faceless recipes at this point.

Thanks to those who supported my efforts in the past.

Happy New Year.

Thanks for doing that post for so long. I always enjoyed it!

So sad to hear this. I loved your blogs, pictures, comments, etc. The Ambassadors blogs were never as good as yours - IMHO. Thanks for all the time, effort, etc. that you put into this I know many will miss it.

I was wishing you'd become an Ambassador, Pam. I'm sorry you aren't wanting to keep it up. There are so many many recipes that could use your beautiful photos. I wish you'd reconsider doing your blog. You are definitely missed in these parts.
Dec. 31, 2012 8:49 am
You are the inspiration for the faceless recipes after all:) There are far too many to do for the ambassadors and your blog puts a way better spin on it. Loved your blog and many others do too! Hope you reconsider. happy New Year!

Appreciate the blogs you posted but also understand your thoughtful decision is probably in the best interest of you and your family. Happy New Year.
Dec. 31, 2012 9:10 am
It certainly is a shame that you've decided not to continue writing your blog. I know that many of your blog readers will miss seeing what you've been cooking up and your photos are always so beautiful. There are so many recipes added each week that are in dire need of a photo. I hope you will decide to take it up again one day.

"The Allrecipes Ambassadors are in charge of giving faces to faceless recipes at this point." No one has put them in charge of anything. All the recipes without a face are for everyone to make & share photos of. No one is "in charge" of this, its not a job assigned to specific people only but for all to enjoy. There's thousands and thousands of "faceless" recipes, more than enough for 7+million members to do. There's no reason to stop something you enjoy and obviously others enjoy reading about because of some misplaced perception its been taken away from you.
Dec. 31, 2012 10:45 am
Say it isn't so Pam. Please return with your blogs. I agree with Marianne, you would be a great ambassador.
Dec. 31, 2012 11:32 am
Well, I will miss your great blogs. Your comments were always on point and your pictures just beautiful. I totally understand how you feel and why.
Dec. 31, 2012 12:09 pm
Pam, I can understand the why of ending this particular strain of your blog, I really can. I just want to say that I've long admired the possession you've displayed in doing such a wonderful job of it. Always exceptional, thank you for the entertaining run. I always wondered how the heck you found all the recipes and imagined that that, must have been a heckuva job in and of itself. Good on ya! Perhaps you can do a reuinion tour every now and then!
Dec. 31, 2012 12:38 pm
I'm sad. I just discovered your blog and you're stopping. Pooh. I looked over a few of your old ones and they were terrific! I'm with Raedwulf. Please do an occasional blog with some exceptional recipes if you can.
Dec. 31, 2012 3:07 pm
Pam, I'll respect your decision with much regret. You have a loyal readership that commented and those (like me) that were loyal lurkers that didn't comment. You are a very smart gal and that makes me believe you gave this much consideration.
Dec. 31, 2012 3:51 pm
Pam, I also loved your blogs. I completely understand and respect your decision to move on. I hope you will at least pop in once in awhile on the Buzz. Have a wonderful 2013.
Dec. 31, 2012 6:33 pm
Pam, I loved your blogs. Your photos were inspirational, so artistic and beautiful. I aspire to be like you in taking photos. I will miss your blog.

I so regret that I had never commented on your blog before now - but you inspired me to try many new recipes! Thank you for the time and effort you put into promoting "faceless" recipes. I loved reading your posts and always looked for the next one. I hope that you will continue to be a presence here!

Wow, thank you to all who who've offered kind words. I need to go back and reread them all. Yes, I did enjoy writing the blogs for quite a while. It did stop being so enjoyable after a time, though, and seemed to be more of a quest. It became harder to find recipes my family would enjoy and that were appropriate for my diabetic husband. Making recipes just for me was causing me to gain weight since I then ATE what I made. I also have a full-time job outside the home and needed ro concentrate on my job and family more. Since stopping the blog and concentrating on these things and changing my eating habits, I've managed to lose 25 lbs. As for the ambassadors (MariaTheSoaper) I don't feel it's been "taken away from me" but rather see it as passing the baton to the next runner(s). If, at some point, I make some faceless recipes again, I may blog them, but at this point can't commit the time to searching out, preparing, photographing, and blogging. Please keep in mind that I only blogged the ones that worked for me. There were others. I didn't become an ambassador mostly because I was completely unaware of the program at its start. It does seem that the program involves a different kind of commitment that I'm not sure I could do given my time constraints. So thanks again to all for reading my blog. Happy New Year!

Many congrats on your weight loss!!!!! I need to get busy myself and take off 25 lbs.
Jan. 1, 2013 8:15 am
Pam, I too will miss your very creative blogs....I tried several recipes based on your photos and reviews. I understand your decision, but hopefully, you can pick this up again in the future without feeling any pressure; that takes all the fun out of it! was so nice of you to share your talents with us... Happy New Year!
Jan. 1, 2013 10:01 am
You do take great pictures and do great reviews. Perhaps you will find another blog inspiration.
Jan. 1, 2013 11:14 am
Pam - I do so understand your reasons for taking a different path - and appreciate your courage to do so. May I suggest that if you decide to blog again about "faceless recipes" - maybe do it from the perspective that works for you and your family . . . ie: recipes that work for your pursuit in weight loss, recipes that work for a family member with diabetes, recipes that work for a working mom (time constraint recipes) - - believe me when I say, you're not alone in these pursuits and would be of enormous help to the rest of us who are trying to find recipes that help in the same efforts. THANK YOU for all you've done to be a helpful medium for those of us too "chicken" to try a faceless recipe - your efforts have not been in vain. Happy New Year & God Bless!

luv2cook - I've already begun considering it, actually. I've reached my goal weight, but am committed to healthier eating that tastes good. I may do a combination of healthy recipes and recipe makeovers. Finding them may be tricky, though. :) Thanks again to all for the kind words and encouragement! Happy New Year!
Jan. 1, 2013 5:23 pm
i so enjoyed these blogs from you Pam...i hadn't seen them for a while and was missing them. thanks for the memories! :-) lol great job on the weight loss, and thanks for all you have done here.
Jan. 1, 2013 5:31 pm
I will miss your blogs too! Your pictures and comments were always great. I always wondered where you found the time to do all that work. Happy New Year!
Jan. 2, 2013 6:33 am
Hi Pam! Miss you on the buzz, stop in sometime and say hi! Thanks for all the blogs, we loved them!
Jan. 2, 2013 7:25 pm
Oh, please don't stop because of the Ambassadors! Your blogs are so fun to read! I understand life can get in the way though. Even if you only do the blogs occasionally, I would look forward to them. You have a fan base!
Jan. 2, 2013 8:46 pm
There were only two bloggers I followed faithfully and both of you have moved on. I'll definitely miss your writing. Good luck…hope your school year is going well.
Jan. 3, 2013 8:47 am
Hi Pam - I may be an Ambassador but I'm not a faceless recipe contributor at all. Those assignments are always "optional" and "extra credit". If they counted on me to take the pics, they would still have a whole lot of faceless recipes.....and congrats on the weight loss - having taken off 50 lbs and now kept it off for a year, I know the struggle & sacrifice and I also know the joy & sense of accomplishment. Great Job !
Jan. 3, 2013 9:46 am
Pam, I didn't comment often, but I always read your blogs. They were very enjoyable, and they will be missed. Congrats on the weight loss, too! Hope to see you here from time to time...
Jan. 3, 2013 11:52 am
I have always loved your blogs, but I will also be very interested if you blog on healthy eating, as I still have some weight to get off.
Jan. 3, 2013 2:50 pm
Pam-3BoysMama - Your faceless recipes blog and pictures always added an element of "class" to the Allrecipes site. I am hoping that Allrecipes will situp and take notice of your absence. It was not necessary for you to agree to join the Allrecipes Ambassadors Program as you are a perfect example of what an ALLSTAR truly represents. I am saddened by your decision but I completely understand your feelings and why you made this decision. Remember, when one door closes another door opens and I, for one, am waiting to see what is behind your NEW door. Wishing you much success :)
Jan. 3, 2013 4:59 pm
You deserve a break! I don't know how you managed all you crammed into your blog as it was! I very much did enjoy all you created and a few of the recipes are part of our rotation now... so, thank you! I will miss the blogs but it will be a nice treat should you post one from time to time. Congrats on the weight loss, 25 lbs is quite an achievement!
Jan. 3, 2013 5:43 pm
Pam, kudos to you on your weight loss! I loved your blog. I totally get the time constraints outside and inside the house. I wish you well.
Jan. 3, 2013 6:42 pm
Sorry to see you go, and I have just started to dig into the site. What is most telling are the comments that seem to want to correct you or put your in your place, looks like there is a culture problem on All Recipes. Glad I saw this now, what a sorry state for a community around recipes. Love reading your blog entries. Thank you for the inspiration, consistency, and vision.
Jan. 4, 2013 8:26 am
Hi Pam, just bopping in to say HI:):) and to tell you how MUCH I loved your blogs. I may not have always commented but I always thought you were Very cleaver and enjoyed your cute little graphics. Congrats on your weight loss and continued success. HNY! ! Take care:)
Jan. 4, 2013 12:43 pm
Thank you Pam for your many blogs and recipes and photos. It was always fun to see the recipe treasures that you discovered. I'd like to suggest a 'community" blog that many AR members could contribute to. If we find a 'faceless' recipe, we could try it, photograph it and submit it to that blog. It might encourage others to give great recipes new life.
Jan. 4, 2013 2:30 pm
Pam-3BoysMama, what a wonderful twist that would be to do faceless healthy recipes (or any healthy recipes that work for you and your family!)! I know I would look forward to them! Your pix are so beautiful! Congratulations on your weight loss! What a wonderful accomplishment! We all appreciate you efforts and thoughtfulness. Family is first and respect your decision but just a thought. Happy New Year and hope we see more of you again in the future! :D
Jan. 4, 2013 4:47 pm
Pam--We will miss your blogs, they were very entertaining, but you have to do what is best for you and your family. Congratulations on the weight loss. That is terrific! Best of luck in your future endeavors, whatever they may be. Godspeed.
Jan. 6, 2013 7:17 am
Pam, congrats on your weight loss! I am in the same type of situation with my hubby being diabetic also. I too gained weight over the last few years and that was after maintaining a 100 pound weight loss for about 4 years. I now need to drop about 25 myself and am working at it. I think its great you know what you needed to do and did it. You did a great job with your photos and blogs and while I was never someone who would comment much, I always recognized your excellent work. Needless to say, your post here made me come out to leave a comment today! ;)
Jan. 7, 2013 12:34 pm
Loved your blog, Pam. Your opinions, pics, everything was perfect. It will be missed!

About Me
I have three teenage sons who are picky eaters (especially the middle one). I try to cook things that they might enjoy trying, but they're not always willing to try new things. My husband started out a picky eater when we met back in 1986, but he's gotten much better and is willing to try ALMOST anything I make. In my spare time I teach second grade. I have introduced my students to cooking and/or new foods over the years.
My favorite things to cook
I love to try all sorts of new recipes, so I don't really have a favorite thing to cook. I enjoy using fresh ingredients from the garden and canning those ingredients to use year-round. I also enjoy baking treats for my second grade class. I'll try almost anything if I think my family will eat it. Of course, I've been known to try a recipe because I want to, whether they'll eat it or not.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I love making the pumpkin pies and other desserts for Thanksgiving. I always like to try one new dessert for each holiday. Baking Christmas cookies is a tradition that goes back as long as I can remember.
My cooking triumphs
I've made some pretty cool cakes for my boys' birthdays. They include a firetruck, baseball, football, and Pokeball. I've also used shaped pans to decorate everything from Barney and Elmo, Power Ranger, Jeff Gordon's #24 racecar, football helmet, a dog and dog house, a monkey, a giant cupcake, and a penguin. Some recent cakes have been a pizza, chef's hat, and Topsy-Turvy (Mad Hatter Cake.) The last one didn't collapse - that was a real triumph! One of my best triumphs has been teaching my boys to cook. They'll never go hungry.
My cooking tragedies
The first time I cooked a turkey I relied on my thermometer to tell when it was done. It wasn't.
