This was very good, especially the topping. I used Splenda & a brown sugar substitute so my diabetic dad could eat it too. I served it hot out of the oven &, for the rest of my guests, I had vanilla ice cream to put on top. I'd used granny smith apples, & one guest said it was good as it was both sweet & tart. My husband thought it was too sweet so I'll try 1/2 a cup of the white sugar/Splenda & maybe 3/4 cup of the brown sugar/sugarfree substitute next time. I wasn't sure if I was supposed to peel the apples or not but I peeled them. I'd say the size of your baking pan should depend on how thick you'd like the apple part to be. I used 10 apples &, even though my guests enjoyed it, I think the 9 X 13 pan was too big.
