I am a mother of a very energetic, funny, happy and loving boy. My husband travels all over the country for business, so when he is home, I like to spoil him with home cooked meals. I find absolute fulfillment and happiness in cooking for my family! Footnote: my interest in cooking actually started on a dare. After college, while working as a Human Genetics research associate at UCLA, a colleague discovered that I have never cooked anything in my life! This person challenged me to cook. I accepted the challenge, reminding them that if I can carry out scientific experiments, I should be able to follow recipes, right?! Well, I have been cooking since and I am forever thankful for that very moment!
My favorite things to cook
I love incorporating functional and whole foods into my cooking. I gravitate towards recipes that only use fresh ingredients and modify those that do not. Lately, my family has frequently shopped at farmers markets and I just absolutely love cooking with the fresh produce that we come home with!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Every weekend, my 4-year old and I would make breakfast, which the family shares together. He and I also quite often make breads, pies, cupcakes and cookies from scratch. I am very fortunate that he shares my passion for cooking and baking, so far. This holiday season (2012) will be very special since it will be the first time that he can actually be involved with cooking and baking. We are starting a new family tradition this year!
My cooking triumphs
My recent cooking triumph is actually more of my son's triumph. At five years old (2013), he actually made the buttery soft pretzel recipe from this site with minimal instructions and supervision from me. My husband couldn't be more proud when the pretzels turned out to be "better than the mall pretzels!" :-)
My cooking tragedies
I have had plenty of cooking tragedies, largely due to my experimental nature.
