Craving Cookies

Reviewed: Apr. 5, 2013
I did not like these and the kids thought they were "just ok". I followed the recipe exactly, except I did take out of the oven at 8 minutes because they were getting too dark. The texture is wrong, not like a cookie. And I thought the flavor is gross. I usually like pb and banana, but it just came out too strong, like bad bananas or something. I won't be making it again.

Easy Biscuits

Reviewed: Feb. 28, 2013
Very bland, and the texture was unappetizing, as well. I followed this recipe exactly, other than adding a 1/2 tsp of salt (because of other reviews) thinking this would add some flavor. I will definitely not be making this one again!

Donut Muffins

Reviewed: Feb. 7, 2013
EXCELLENT!!! Will definitely make these many times over. I followed the recipe exactly and was thrilled with the results. My kids and I ate all of them up in one sitting, and the boys were asking for more. The perfect hint of nutmeg with a soft inside and crunchy outside. The only changes I would make next time is needing more margarine melted for dipping. I did realize though, for those who want it a tad bit healthier (ha!), is that you really don't need margarine to dip it in. The sugar mixture will stick to warm donuts without it.

Coffee Chip Drops

Reviewed: Feb. 7, 2013
These cookies turned out pretty good. I did double the amount of instant coffee because I wanted the coffee flavor to stand out, and it seemed to me like a perfect amount. I did not add any nuts. Other than these two changes, I followed recipe exactly. They did flatten quite a bit, which was disappointing, but maybe it was because I made them a bit bigger than a tablespoon. They also did not stay fresh very long - by second day they were pretty hard. Overall, these cookies were really good though, and I would make again.

Best Ever Meat Loaf

Reviewed: Dec. 11, 2012
This was really the best meatloaf and my family agreed! I only made a few minor changes - I substituted 1 cup dry bread crumbs for the bread slices, and added minced garlic to the sauce. It was delicious and moist, even my picky son loved it. Will definitely be making again!

Chocolate-Zucchini Cupcakes

Reviewed: Aug. 23, 2012
These are delicious! Very moist and tasty! I made a few changes. I did not beat the eggs and sugar for 10 minutes since I only have a hand mixer and not that much time! It did not seem to make a difference. Then to the dry ingredients, I added 1/2 cup unsweetened coco powder since I did not have baking chocolate bars.I used 3/4 cup of oil and 1/4 cup applesauce. I also skipped the nuts. I had enough left-over to make a small loaf of cake, yet now I wish I had used the batter to top off the cupcakes. This recipe probably really does only make 24 cupcakes because I found that they do not rise very much, so you can fill almost to the top of muffin pan. I topped the cupcakes with home-made cream cheese frosting and they were perfect! Brought to a family picnic and they were finished off very quickly. Because of the coco, nobody even realized that there was zucchini in these! Will make again!

Layered Peanut Butter Brownies

Reviewed: Aug. 9, 2012
I have now made these twice, and both times were amazing! Both times, I have followed the recipe exactly (except that the first time I used wheat flour instead of all-purpose, and it did not make any difference). I only have 2 notes to add: first, I have found that the pb only needs 30 seconds in microwave to soften enough to spread, and second that I recommend sifting the coco and the powdered sugar that goes into the frosting. It makes little lumps, which isnt bad with the powdered sugar, but not that nice to have a bitter taste of coco! These ones are definitely worth the time and effort, and I will make them many times more!

Mom's Zucchini Bread

Reviewed: Aug. 1, 2012
I've made this twice now and both times have turned out AMAZING! The only thing I changed the first time was that I added an extra cup of zucchini and a cup of mini chocolate chips (and deleted the nuts). The second time, I did not add the cinnamon nor the nuts and added 1 more cup of zucchini, 1 cup of wild blueberries, and 1 cup of white chocolate chips (It made 2 loaves + 4 mini loaves). I am definitely saving this recipe because everyone loves it!

Pear and Blueberry Cake

Reviewed: Jul. 28, 2012
I made this recipe exactly as written, except that I omitted the almonds and added and extra 1/4 cup blueberries. I had to bake it for about 60 minutes for it to be fully cooked in center. It is flavorful, but I think there is too much almond flavoring. It overpowers the pears and blueberries. Even with cooking that long, it is still very moist. Yet it is a weird texture. Almost like a spongecake. Not what I expected and kind of turned me off.

Lemon Blueberry Bread

Reviewed: Jul. 28, 2012
I followed this recipe exactly - other than leaving out the walnuts and lemon zest and making the glaze with powdered sugar instead of white. It came out very tasty and moist. I would consider this more of a cake than a bread. I think if I was to make this again, I would add an extra 1/2 cup of blueberries.

Firefighter's Favorite Chocolate Chip Cookie

Reviewed: Jun. 28, 2012
Excellent! Followed all directions exactly (other than using toffee bits instead of chopping up bars). Came out perfect and delicious. I recommend taking out of oven a minute before it looks completely cooked since they cook while sitting. Soft and chewy!

Crumb-Topped Rhubarb

Reviewed: Jun. 2, 2012
I thought that this was really too sour! I made for a party without trying first, and about 3/4 of it was left-over. I followed the directions exactly, other than adding in 1 cup of sliced peaches. It's just too much rhubarb for us, I guess! I still gave it 3 stars because if someone truly loved, loved rhubarb they may like this.

Swedish Rye Bread

Reviewed: May 25, 2012
Excellent! Delicious with butter and a bowl of soup. I made the dough in my bread machine (had to add about 1/4 cup more water so that it would mix properly). Then divided into 3 loaves and allowed to rise. Baked in oven at 350 for 25 minutes and they are perfect!

Chocolate Marshmallow Frosting

Reviewed: May 11, 2012
Is fluff the same as marshmallow cream? If so, this recipe just did not work for me! I followed everything except omitted the chocolate since I wanted white marshmallow frosting. When I beat with a mixer, it whipped down to very little! So, I then doubled the recipe, yet it was still very runny so I added an extra 1/4 cup softened butter and 1/4 cup shortening and confectioner sugar until it was thick enough to spread. It tasted really yummy; just like fluff! So, I don't know if I messed something up with this recipe or what!

Award Winning Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Apr. 24, 2012
Some of the best cookies that I've made yet! I halved the recipe but followed all the ingredients almost exactly - subbed 1/2 cup more chocolate chips since I didn't use nuts and added 1/2 tsp salt. I baked at 350 for 10 minutes and they came out perfect! They are not too overpoweringly sweet, which I personally prefer. Will definitely make again!

Championship Cookies

Reviewed: Apr. 20, 2012
These cookies turned out yummy, but I did need to change a few things. I followed all the directions up to the point of adding in the oatmeal & candy bars. The dough was very crumbly and to dry to spoon, so I added another egg (maybe my first egg was too small?). Then I added the oatmeal and snickers and (because of other reviews) I also added 1/2 cup chopped peanuts and 1 cup chocolate chips. Also, I used parchment paper which was a necessity due to the caramel sticking. At 350 degrees, these took 12 minutes to cook. They did flatten out quite a bit and are chewy (maybe because of the extra egg?). But they do have great flavor and we all love them. And, yes, it's a wonderful way to use up the Easter candy! :)

Buttery Rolls

Reviewed: Apr. 8, 2012
I followed this recipe up until it started mixing in my bread machine. After 5 minutes, I checked on it and it was obvious that it needed more flour. I added about 1 cup more of flour, so I'm not sure if I really only added 3 cups earlier or I just did something wrong! I use my bread machine a lot, so it wasn't difficult to get the consistency corrected. After dividing up dough, I allowed it to rise for 30 minutes, and then also brushed melted butter on the top. Once baked (and warm from the oven) these were delicious! Sweet and soft and perfect. Will definitely make these again!

Easy Cookies

Reviewed: Mar. 6, 2012
I love this recipe - so easy and yummy! I make a few minor changes. I sub 1/2 cup shortening + 1/2 cup margarine for the 1 cup butter and 2 whole eggs rather than just yolks (helps keep them from flattening). I also do not roll in sugar since I add 1 cup of chocolate chips. This recipe makes 2.5 dozen if you use a medium size icecream scoop. try: carrot cake with white chocolate chips fudge cake with chocolate chips party rainbow cake with mini choc chips choc cake with pb chips

Green Bean Casserole IV

Reviewed: Nov. 30, 2011
I made this dish as a sub to the original green bean casserole due to mushroom allergies. I gave this 4 stars (rather than 5) not based on taste. This dish tastes amazing! I did make some alterations though. I doubled the recipe. I substituted the onion for french fried onions. And I topped with french fried onions instead of stuffing. The thing I'll do different next time is actually mix it into the green beans. It cooked as a cheesy layer on top and did not sink into the beans and seemed a little too thick (maybe I shouldn't have doubled the flour). Other than the seperate layers, this was a good dish!
