Banana Banana Bread

Reviewed: Jul. 9, 2014
I don't understand how I can feel differently than 7,000 people, but my husband and I could not eat this bread. I had recently made the Chocolate Chip Banana Bread II recipe, and I loved it. My husband, however, does not think that bread should contain chocolate. So I told him that I would make banana bread just for him. I made it exactly as written. I even double, triple, quadruple checked it, and I followed the recipe exactly. The texture was good. It baked in 65 minutes as called for in the recipe. It had a beautiful brown exterior. Something just wasn't right. It just didn't taste right. It had a very odd taste that neither of us could put our finger on it, but I won't be making it again.

Chocolate Chip Banana Bread II

Reviewed: Jul. 1, 2014
This bread is absolutely delicious. I've never made banana bread before, but the chocolate chips drew my attention. I made it exactly as is with no substitutions. There is no reason to change a thing. I have never had a more delicious bread in my life! It was extremely moist, but was cooked completely within the given time frame. I will definitely make this again and again.

Taco Pie

Reviewed: Jul. 1, 2014
I had a few problems with this recipe. The recipe calls for using a square cake pan. The pan was not sufficient to house the crescent rolls much less the ingredients. I ended up using another tube of crescent rolls in an 8.5x11 casserole dish so I wasted a tube of crescent rolls. Speaking of crescent rolls, I really didn't like the combination of the rolls and the contents. It just tasted odd. This was also extremely bland, so I served it with salsa and jalapenos....still very bland. Could we eat it? Yes, but we will not be eating it again.

Best Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Jul. 1, 2014
I just made these cookies an hour ago and a few times in the past. I have taken them to work and have always received compliments as well as requests for the recipe. My family loves them as well. I have cooked them using a conventional oven as well as convection. The cookies are soft on the inside and just a little crispy on the outside. In my opinion, they taste a lot like cookies you would buy at the mall, maybe even better. No need to tweak the recipe at all. The cookies are perfect as is.

Baked Teriyaki Chicken

Reviewed: Jun. 1, 2014
My husband and I loved this recipe. The sauce was delicious. The chicken was tender. I doubled the sauce as suggested by other reviewers, and I'm glad I did. We drizzled some on the chicken and our plates upon serving. My husband liked it so much that he told me to write the recipe down in case it is removed somehow online. That's never something he's ever said before, so that's a testament to its deliciousness.

Grands!® Mini Chicken Pot Pies

Reviewed: Feb. 7, 2014
We did not like this at all. It was extremely bland and not at all appetizing. The filling was too little for the amount of breading, and there was no way to add more filling to balance the ratio within the muffin tin. It is quick and easy, but I will not make it again. My husband had one and then popped a bag of popcorn, because he couldn't eat another. My daughter wouldn't even finish hers.

Easy Vegetable Beef Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2014
I made this recipe as is (as everyone should before they rate). It was quick, inexpensive and delicious. It does make a lot of soup, so it's good for family gatherings. I was able to take a container full to my in-laws. I had never made vegetable soup before. It was so easy. I will definitely make it again...perfect for a long, tiring day after work. Now having said that, next time I will try using beef broth instead of water just out of curiosity.

Basic Biscuits

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2013
This recipe is just what it says...Basic Biscuits. These biscuits are very easy to make. However if you're new to biscuit/bread making, I suggest watching one of the videos on this site on how to work the dough. I think I'll stick to my buttermilk biscuits, because they're softer and more flavorful. White Lily flour makes the lightest, softest biscuits. I don't know if that brand is available nationally or only here in the South, but it makes the lightest biscuits hands down.

Slow Cooker Taco Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 30, 2013
This is one of the easiest meals I've ever prepared. I made this as is (which I wish everyone would please do before they review). I found no reason to change anything. This is a fantastic weeknight meal...a few minutes in the morning and a complete, delicious meal ready when you come home. I served it with Fritos, shredded cheese, and sour cream. It doesn't have a lot of 'kick', but that is easy enough to remedy for personal preference with some hot sauce, jalapenos, etc. I liked the 'crunch' from the corn and I would definitely not leave it out. This would be great for pot lucks and family gatherings. I will definitely make it for family and guests.

Apple Pie by Grandma Ople

Reviewed: Nov. 30, 2013
My kitchen smells absolutely heavenly right now! You wouldn't think something so easy to make, with so few ingredients, could taste so delicious. The video for this recipe is a handy side-tool. As someone else suggested, a tsp of vanilla might be a nice addition, but it's fabulous as is!

Grandma's Green Bean Casserole

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2013
I made this today for Thanksgiving. I'm bad for trying new recipes for a crowd rather than trying them at home in private first. I trusted the reviews and gave it a try. This was really, really good, and I got many compliments. I doubled the recipe, and there was very little left over. My only complaint is that it was too salty...still delicious, but definitely too salty. I doubt eliminating a tsp of salt will make a difference, so it must be the cheese. I'm not sure if reducing that will make a difference, but I will give it a try next time...and there will be a next time!

Country Apple Dumplings

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2013
So easy, yet so good! I worried they might be too soggy based on some of the reviews, but that was not the case. We all loved it, including three picky children. I served them warm with ice cream. Perfect desert! I think this would be a great cooking opportunity to include my kids. They would love wrapping them in the crescent rolls. I will definitely make these again!

Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Muffins

Reviewed: Nov. 16, 2013
I made these tonight. I also thought they were very bland. The texture was fine. Even with chocolate chips, they just didn't have much flavor. I'll stick with the Downeast Main Pumpkin Bread recipe here.

I'm not a huge fan of cooked carrots, but these were delicious. My family loved it too. Now I'm wondering why I wasn't a fan of carrots, because I am now!

Sarah's Applesauce

Reviewed: Nov. 16, 2013
This was wonderful! I've never had, much less made, homemade applesauce before. It was quick and easy. I served it with grilled pork tenderloin and mashed potatoes. My husband doesn't compliment my cooking often. This was no exception...or so I thought. The next day we went to visit his parents. We had only been there a few minutes when his mother said my husband had told her how delicious the meal had been the night before. I wish my husband would say it to me, but this was a great feeling too! I've made this a few time since, and it's always delicious. Makes good leftovers too!

Sloppy Joes II

I almost didn't try this because I always hated that canned sloppy joe stuff when I was a kid. I'm so glad I decided to try it anyway. It is delicious! Perfect as is. No changes necessary.

Downeast Maine Pumpkin Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 16, 2013
I've made this twice, exactly as written, and my family loved it. I've never made pumpkin bread before, and I've only eaten it once from a bakery. But hey it's autumn, so I thought I would give it a try based on the reviews. We loved it. I gave a loaf to my mother and one to my sister both times I've made it. They've asked me to make it again every time. I definitely will!
