My favorite things to cook
Anything I can do in the slow cooker! Like my mother, I prefer to make all of my meals from scratch (little to no shortcuts).. It feels good to know exactly what is in the food I am eating and feeding to my family!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Growing up we had a tradition that every Friday we (my mom, sister and I) would make pizza for supper! We made it completely from scratch, and each week we would have a different theme for our pizza (greek, bbq, all meat, all veggies, spicy, etc).. It was fun to experiment with different toppings, and to recreate the different types of pizza sold by large chain restaurants that we otherwise couldn't have afforded.

My cooking tragedies
Stuffed pork loin - everything was going well until I pulled it out of the oven and started slicing into it.. It hadn't cooked all the way through!! I would have popped it back in the oven to finish cooking, but our guests had spotted the pink of the meat (gasp!) and were thoroughly grossed out at the thought of eating it later... I can't blame them for doubting my cooking skills after that, so I threw the whole thing out and ordered some pizzas! *Note: I had followed the cooking directions, even left the roast in for an extra half hour, but our oven was old and had picked that particular night to 'kick the bucket'.. We have since bought a new oven, and a meat thermometer (just in case)!

Stuffed Peppers
I made this for a potluck where the theme was vegetables that came from your garden. So easy, but it makes a great presentation and is SO delicious! I chopped up some onion and mushrooms and added that to the beef/rice mixture and everyone loved it! I had to cut a small bit from the bottom of each green pepper so that they would stand up straight, so I put a slice of tomato in the bottom of each of them and it held the mixture in the pepper and also added a bit of a surprise at the end!

Maple Walnut Pumpkin Pie
We make our own maple syrup, so I added that instead of maple flavoring, about half a cup rather than 1 tsp... Everyone enjoys homemade pumpkin pie, but the graham cracker crust was what stole the show! I will never make a traditional pie crust again!!!
