About this Cook
I've been cooking since I was 12 (that's a lot of years ago now!)A lot of my recipes I've had for 20-30 yrs, still great, but I'm always on the look out for something different for dinner. Getting tired of the same-old-same-old.
My favorite things to cook
I like simple and easy. The less ingredients the better, but I need to be careful about packaged food--not good for me. I'm working part-time right now, so I'm cooking almost every day. I love bbq'd food (my hubby doesn't cook at all) especially on a hot summer day.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Turkey dinner with all the trimmings including homemade cranberry sauce. YUM! A turkey dinner is just not for holidays in our house. We will usually have 2 or 3 more times in addition to the usual turkey holiday dinners because it's a favourite and the very best part of a turkey dinner---leftovers the next day!
My cooking triumphs
I find that if I follow a tried & true recipe 100%, it usually always turns out great! My best successes has been muffins, loaves & cookies. These never last in my house!
My cooking tragedies
Used baking powder instead of baking soda in one recipe and forgetting to add sugar in another. Be extra careful when cooking with kids! They tend to get you side-tracked!

Beef Pot Pie III
I used a blade roast and while it was simmering I added 2 bay leaves. I didn't use the beef broth or frozen peas because I didn't have either on hand so I used onion, celery and carrots. With a little salt and pepper I found it was quite tasty. My hubby ate as a stew for two days and loved it then I made pie crust and made meat pies for him to have when I work afternoons.

Sparkling Holiday Jam
Made this last year for Christmas gifts. Was sweet but delicious! Highly recommend.

Downeast Maine Pumpkin Bread
Have made several times but had to make a few changes after the first try. One cup of oil is too much....used 1/2 cup oil and 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce. Didn't have allspice so added extra tsp of cinnamon and also cut the sugar back to 2 cups so it's not as sweet. This makes 2 large loaves or 3 smaller loaves and next time I'm going to add raisins just for fun.
