Classic Goulash

Reviewed: Oct. 27, 2014
LOVED IT!! I live in MN and this is the classic Midwestern version of goulash that I grew up with. I made a few modifications based on other reviews - added a chopped green pepper and used Worcestershire instead of soy sauce. It was easy to make and very very good! I will definitely be keeping this in my fall/winter meal rotation!!

Hamburger Steak with Onions and Gravy

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2014
Yum yum yum!! I made a few modifications - no onion salt just b/c I did not have any (but since the patties were fried with fresh onion I felt that was ok), fresh pressed garlic instead of garlic salt, and I added fresh mushrooms to the sauce. SO good!! My husband and I both loved it. Super easy to make and very very tasty, perfect comfort food for a nice fall/winter evening. Served with garlic mashed potatoes. Thank you for a wonderful recipe!

Chantal's New York Cheesecake

Reviewed: Jun. 16, 2014
THIS RECIPE IS AMAZING!! It was my first attempt at making a cheesecake and it turned out perfect. I did not have vanilla extract in the house (much to my dismay!) so I used Penzey's Vietnamese Cinnamon instead - just eyeballed the amount...a little goes a long way! My fiancee and parents said it was the best cheesecake they have every had in any restaurant or anywhere else. I agreed! I left it in the oven with the temp off for 5 hours as the recipe said - and it did still crack a little but that was no problem at all. Thank you for sharing this recipe - I now have confidence in my baking ability! :)

Boudreaux's Zydeco Stomp Gumbo

Reviewed: Jun. 9, 2014
WOW this is a fantastic recipe!! The only modifications we made were to add a can of tomato paste and some cooked rice at the very end. The flavor is amazing!! My husband asked for double the amount of sausage and chicken next time - but I think it's great as-is. We will definitely make this again - and have it in our rotation of favorite recipes. Thank you for sharing!!

Garlic Chicken

Reviewed: May 21, 2014
Delicious!! I used butter instead of olive oil and the flavor was amazing! I also used about 6 cloves of crushed garlic and Cajun Shore Lunch instead of bread crumbs (Shore lunch works just as well for chicken or pork as it does for fish!). The chicken turned out juicy and so flavorful! My husband and I will most definitely be making this again - super easy for a weeknight meal - and so tasty - thank you!

Slow Cooker Pulled Pork

Reviewed: May 12, 2014
WOW - YUM!! I used a 3 lb pork butt instead of tenderloin - I think the fattier cut of meat turns out better for pulled pork. I followed instructions and AMAZING!! I was doubtful about the root beer but it turned out so so good!! Better than pulled pork from a restaurant. Will definitely be making this again - so easy and so delicious!! Thank you!!

Szechwan Shrimp

Reviewed: May 7, 2014
Delicious!! I omitted the ginger and it was still yummy! Might go lighter on ketchup and heavier on soy next time. Plan to add more heat to it next time as well - add some cayenne and tabasco to give it a kick. :) We served the shrimp over white rice and it was a perfect meal. Very easy to make and full of flavor. Thanks!

Good Old Fashioned Pancakes

Easy to make - I had all of the ingredients in the house already - and they were so so delicious!! My husband, 4-year old, and 2-year old agreed. :-) I might add chocolate chips next time. ;) This is my new staple pancake recipe - thank you for sharing!!

Slow Cooker Chicken Taco Soup

Reviewed: Apr. 7, 2014
This soup was super easy to make and SO good!! I substituted a can of chicken stock for the beer; added a generous amount of cumin; a few dashes of Penzey's Chili Con Carne; and 2 garlic gloves. It had the perfect amount of spice. My fiancee normally adds Tabasco to soups but did not this time - yet it was not too spicy. The chicken shredded perfectly after about 4 hours in the crockpot. We topped it with sour cream, shredded cheddar cheese, and crushed tortilla strips. Cornbread on the side. Definitely a 5-star recipe!!

Hot and Sour Chicken Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 30, 2014
This was my first time making hot and sour soup - it turned out fantastic!! I did not use ginger b/c we do not like that flavor...and did not use cilantro. I used about twice as much sesame oil to coat the chicken - and next time will marinade the chicken overnight to set in the flavor a bit more. I took the advice of other reviews and used rice vinegar with the corn starch instead of red wine vinegar - but used twice as much cornstarch to get that nice thick consistency like you get from the restaurant hot & sour soup. My husband LOVED it. I will definitely make this again!!

Slow Cooker Chicken and Dumplings

Reviewed: Sep. 23, 2013
This was absolutely delicious!! I integrated recommendations from a few other reviews and used 2 cans of cream of chicken soup and 1 can (14.5 oz) of chicken broth. No water. I put the dough into the crockpot about 60 minutes prior to serving (after 5 hours). I agree that to not cut up the chicken but let it simmer in the broth all day in whole pieces - it was SO tender and fell apart on its own. Since the biscuit dough is so sticky, I put some flour on a large piece of wax paper and covered the pieces in flour while I slightly flattened them before cutting in to 4 pieces. The flour also thickened up the broth a little, which was perfect. THANK YOU - I am definitely going to make this regularly over the winter - perfect cold Sunday comfort food. :):)

Country Apple Dumplings

Reviewed: Feb. 5, 2013
I followed the recipe to a tee and they turned out wonderful!! The only modification I will make next time is to slice the apples a little thinner to have two smaller slices per dumpling. My parents just loved them and were surprised about the Mountain Dew! They were golden, sweet, and delicious! I will definitely make them again!!

Chicken Marsala

Reviewed: Jan. 24, 2013
This recipe is easy to make and absolutely yummy! Definitely worth it to spend a few extra dollars on good marsala wine and cooking sherry. I sauteed onion and garlic before browning the chicken and added cornstarch to the sauce to thicken it. Very important to flatten the chicken...it will not work otherwise (maybe that's obvious but felt the need to say that :)). Such good flavor. I served with garlic mashed potatoes and green beans. My friends loved it, as did I!

Louisiana Shrimp Creole II

Reviewed: Jan. 24, 2013
This recipe is super easy and SO yummy! I use tiger shrimp - in my opinion the high quality shrimp is necessary to make it fabulous. :) We love spicy and put in a few more dashes of hot sauce and it's perfect! We serve over rice.

MMMMM... Brownies

Reviewed: Aug. 1, 2011
The best brownies I have ever had!! So easy to make - the only modifications I had were to use 1/4 cup brown sugar and 1/4 cup white sugar (instead of 1/2 cup white) and just a tad less salt. They turned out WONDERFUL and everyone I have shared them with thinks they are yummy! I will never buy a box again!

Champagne Punch III

Reviewed: Jul. 28, 2011
This is a wonderful recipe!! I used lime slices instead of lemon and did not add the mint leaves. I used Sprite ice cubes instead of the ice ring. My friends all LOVED it and the 7 of us had no problem finishing it off - they all asked for the recipe!
