About this Cook
I love cooking for family and friends. I think it must run in my family, as my grandparents were wonderful home cooks. I have wonderful memories of my grandpa firing up his Colemen stove outside on top of a picnic table, preparing to make pancakes for the tribe of grandkids. My grandparents made things like Homemade beef and noodles (with real homemade noodles) I'm still looking for a wheat roll recipe that my grandparents used, but I can't seem to find the right one.
My favorite things to cook
One of my favorite things to make is cheesecake. It always seems to impress people and its not as difficult to make as people think.
My favorite family cooking traditions
One of my favorite family traditions is decorating Christmas cookies with my mother and whichever of the kids we can get to show up to help. My mother makes her Grammy's old fashion sour cream sugar cookie recipe thats been in the family for year. She bakes them all up in all different shapes and has them cooled and stacked in piles, waiting for the "decorators" to arrive. It used to be when my children were younger they couldn't wait to go and decorate. Then as they got older, it wasn't so much fun. Now, we're to the years when they just don't have time. But there always seems to be one or two that have time to come put all the eyes on the Santa's and Frosty's. My mom and I are the offical frosters, and we have to have the color of red just right for Santa's suit.
My cooking triumphs
I'd have to say my first real cheesecake was my "I did it" moment. Then my mom asked about all the cracks that were on the top, I just figured it was supposed to look that way. Didn't effect the taste one bit, so I thought it was a big accomplishment! lol
My cooking tragedies
My cooking tradedies.... hmmmm... I'm sure there might have been one or two (or more like a million) but I seem to be having a bad memory :) The food is only a fraction of the good time, its the people you share it with that make the wonderful memories.

Creamy Slow Cooker Marsala Pork
I made this according to directions and it turned out awesome. The only thing I did slightly different was to season the chops after layering in the crock pot. The gravey turned out perfect, nice and thick. Perfect dish.

Wedding Cake
I don't understand all the low reviews. This is a traditional wedding cake recipe which allows the person making the cake, stackability. I followed the directions exactly because I was testing 3 different recipes and wanted to find which was best without tweaking. This one had a more spongy, moist cake. I think because of the sour cream. If you want more flavor, any extracts could be added to take it up a notch. This does make a more yellow then white cake. If you have trouble with it being too dense, check the expiration date on your baking powered. Thank you Larisa for a nice recipe

Raspberry Pain au Chocolat (Raspberry Chocolate Croissants)
Excellent recipe!! I used seedless red raspberry jam and a really good quality black cherry and blue berry jam (the black cherry was better then the red raspberry, not overly sweet) As far as the filling, I think more is better. I ended up with a good heaping teaspoon of the chocolate spread and just a little less then a heaping teaspoon of the jam. I did some with just plain jam, but everyone seemed to prefer the chocolate spread. I also dusted the pastry with a coarse sugar and everyone loved it. Don't worry about the sizes being so precise, just cut the sheet into three strips at the fold and each strip into three again, give them a little roll and fill. Thanks for the great recipe Allison.
