New York Spiedies

Reviewed: Jan. 18, 2014
Born in Binghamton myself, my parents moved us to Phoenix when I was 2. We still had spiedies all the time when they could afford meat. When times were better we got to go home to NY/Pa to visit our family still there and have more. Going to have to make some up for my Super Bowl party, and this recipe is great, though I do cut back on the oregano a bit. Thanks for sharing!

Fabulous! I took them to a barbecue/picnic at the park and prepared them in a stovetop oven. I couldn't make them fast enough for our group, very well received! Thanks for a great recipe, I will make these tasty nibbles often!

MMMMM! As good as I remember! Mom always called these Peanut Butter Blossoms, thanks for reminding me of this old favorite recipe AND my Mom. Missing her now, especially here at Christmas time.

Spanish Rice Original

Reviewed: Oct. 5, 2012
This was amazing! I didn't have fresh tomatoes on hand so I drained a can of chopped tomatoes and added that instead. I also didn't have any chicken broth in the pantry so I braised some chicken breasts and set them aside and used the liquid in place of the broth. The rest of the recipe I followed to the "T" only I chopped up the chicken breasts and tossed those in at the end when I added the corn and olives in. This is an authentic Spanish Rice recipe and I'm sure it's also perfect as written. Thank you so much, Deed!!

Diner-Style Baked Potato Home Fries

Reviewed: Jul. 21, 2012
Good basic recipe. Whenever I make baked potatoes I always bake a couple of extra potatoes so we can have Home Fries the next day. If you enjoy them extra crispy, like me, add some shortening to the skillet. "Bacon grease" is a must if you've made bacon, too. Use a combo of any BG, shortening and butter and you can't go wrong. (I don't use vegetable oil, as it tends to make the potatoes bland and "heavy" tasting.)

Scalloped Potatoes II

Reviewed: Apr. 2, 2012
Buchko this is perfect as is, but I'm a bacon hound so like my mother always did I topped it with a few strips of the good stuff. I'd never had the instructions or measurements written down before, always eyeballed it like Mom did but with the exact same ingredients. I used your recipe and they were almost exactly the same! Thank you for taking the time to measure, it is a lot easier recommending your recipe for them to try, rather than trying to explain what a couple of handfuls of flour looks like! lol Bravo on the perfect recipe, Buchko!!

Antipasto Pasta Salad

Reviewed: Feb. 4, 2012
Wonderful stuff! I used more like a 1/3 lb. on the meats but otherwise stuck to the recipe, so pretty served in my trifle bowl and a simple parsley garnish on top. Make this easy dish, people will think you fussed! Thanks for the great recipe, Dayna!

Zucchini Puffs

Reviewed: Jan. 8, 2012
I loved these, the texture was superb. Based on other reviews I added 1/2 tsp. each of garlic and onion powders. The recipe halved nicely, since I'm the only one here to eat them now, and they still turned out beautifully. Puffy is the perfect description-you nailed it with their name, Anna B. Thanks for sharing, I'll make these again and again!

Potato, Bacon, and Corn Chowder

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2011
Wonderful, much like I make it, but I don't add the extra veggies. The canned corn, potatoes and bacon, plus the flour, butter and of course milk. A little seasoning of salt and pepper, sometimes a pat of butter and all set! So simple, so comforting, so delicious!!

Cream Cheese Kolacky

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2009
I've been making cream cheese Kolacky over 40 years and this recipe is perfect as is, however I make a much larger batch using a lb. of butter, lb. of cream cheese, 4 cups flour and a couple tsp. of vanilla. I also make a walnut filling instead of preserves by grinding a lb. of walnuts or pecans and mixing with 1 1/4 cups sugar and two beaten egg whites. Like another reviewer I also roll them out on a liberal dusting of powdered sugar in lieu of dusting them with it. It carmelizes the bottom and adds yet another tasty dimension to an already scrumptious cookie. These proportions make plenty to share for Christmas gifts, but I must warn you-you will be asked to make them every year!! :)

Tater Tot Casserole

Reviewed: Jan. 7, 2009
I love tater tot casserole, this recipe is much the same as mine, but I don't add ketchup. I also add a drained can of corn and a drained can of green beans for extra nutrition, and a 1/2 cup of milk mixed in to loosen it up and stretch the soup. MMMM MMMM Good!

Basic Ham and Bean Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 28, 2002
This is exactly how I use ham-hocks or leftover bones from those fancy spiral-cut hams! I even serve with cornbread, as stated in another review. J.A. uses the same ingredients I have always used (in a different proportion); except J.A. adds garlic-I might add some next time...This is an old recipe and my Mom always called this dish Navy Beans-although I don't know why...Thanks for sharing A.J.

Awesome Broccoli-Cheese Casserole

Reviewed: Nov. 30, 2002
Wow! I hardly ever stray from my tried and true recipes for Thanksgiving, but I am glad I broke tradition and tried this casserole. It was so good it will be a new tradition at my feast every year from now on! Thanks for the recipe. UPDATE 2009 I wasn't kidding when I said I'd used this wonderful recipe again for the yearly Thanksgiving meal and as per usual I got the rave reviews and recipe request just as in the previous 6 years! I make this as written and it's perfect- no changes needed. Thanks again, Stacy, for a wonderful recipe that really has become a Holiday Tradition for us! Update 2013: Happy Thanksgiving again, Stacy! Yep, I'm taking this to my son and DIL's as requested yet again this year! I now have a beautiful 1year old grandson and I can't wait to watch his reaction to "Grandma's" yummy broccoli-cheese casserole! He's a real veggie lover, too. Over a decade now with this fantastic recipe, Stacy! I can't thank you enough!! :-)
