Mama D's Italian Bread

First let me say I'm addicted to good Italian bread. I used to live near Philadelphia, and it was very easy to get good Italian bread at every bakery since that region of the US has a large population of Italians (I'm 1/2 myself). I just moved to Houston and I haven't seen Italian bread anywhere just yet. I've gotten to opportunity, but I've been home sick for good Italian bread... and Herr's Potato Chips (but thats a completely separate issue!~) I decided to try this as a novice bread maker and I thought it came out perfect- although I probably should have tried to "Tame the shape" just a bit more- as it turned into a mutant blob thats proving quite difficult to make a good cut of. The directions also weren't very clear about how long you should bake a loaf- so I tried to make my best judgement- but as a novice it wasn't too easy. Another 5 minutes would have been perfect to get the ideal internal fluffiness. The crust was perfect though- nice and thick with lots of flavor. Its a shame I don't have a proper bread cutting knife! I thought I was going to chop my fingers off making a straight cut! I ended up making a grilled cheese on small cuts, and of course plan on using the rest as a side dish with pasta later this evening. Pasta just doesn't taste right without good bread.

Applesauce Bread I

Delicious! Perfect. I halved the recipe, and used a tad bit more flour than the recipe asked for since I heard some people saying it was too moist, but mine came out perfect with a gentle sweet taste. I really should have made muffins out of this... especially regretting that I forgot to grease my pan... I'm not going to enjoy getting this out. I highly recommend, this was amazing.

I just got into baking, and this is actually the first bread I ever made, and it still turned out amazing! I ended up using Cinnamon instead of cardamon, but thats ok because I have a love obsession with Cinnamon! While preparing I didn't realize that the ingredients were set for 3 loaves! That's going to be too much for 2 people people to eat, hopefully we can find someone to give at least one of the loaves to. Also, I let it rise 2 times naturally, then put it in the fridge overnight and it rose again. Someone told me that the best taste comes out that way. I highly suggest people cook it at 350 for 30-35 minutes. At 400 the crust bakes too fast, and it can actually remained uncooked inside! After the first loaf I adjusted my temperature and the rest came out perfect. They turned out with a nice shell, but it wasn't too hard. The inside was nice and soft, but still thick and not overly fluffy. It had a sweet taste, and it looks beautiful too. Its actually very easy to tear off into portions instead of cutting because of the braided portions, and I feel like this would go really well with a holiday dinner instead of baking traditional biscuits. I highly recommend,and hope I find more yummy bread recipes ^.^
