About this Cook
My partner and I have been vegetarian for since the fall of 2002, so options for eating out have become a lot more limited (not that there aren't a couple of great places in town that are veggie friendly). Plus, I definitely get a lot of satisfaction from cooking a tasty meal for my friends.
My favorite things to cook
I like to cook hearty, full-flavored foods that are still relatively easy to cook and healthy. Thirty minutes of prep and thirty minutes of cooking are about right, though I can wait an hour for a good lasagna to bake!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Christmas cookies! Mom always makes a wide variety of Christmas cookies, including sugar cookies hand decorated by the family. She also makes a tasty baked good for breakfast on Christmas morning.
My cooking triumphs
I finally got a KitchenAid stand mixer as a Christmas present to me, and it's great to have that tool available to me. However, being able to whip up cookies in no time is going to spoil my friends. :)
My cooking tragedies
Yeast and I are still on uneasy terms. I no longer have the reputation of being the "yeast murderer", but we still don't have a comfortable relationship.

Pumpkin Muffins with Streusel Topping
Delicious muffins -- I made them for a work breakfast and people were asking for the recipe. I used sultanas for the raisins since I had them, and they were a great fit for the color and texture of the muffins. The recipe does make 18 very large muffins -- spreading them out should make 24 reasonably-sized ones.

Too Much Chocolate Cake
As with so many others, this cake got stellar reviews when I presented it as a birthday cake. Since I wasn't sure it was going to be chocolate-y enough :) I covered it with a dark chocolate ganache.

Stuffed Peppers My Way
A yummy recipe and a great find. I substituted canned diced tomatoes since fresh tomatoes were out of season. The result was a bit too salty since the canned tomatoes had salt in them. I expect it would have been just right if I omitted the added salt specified in the recipe.
