Jalapeno Chicken II

Reviewed: Jun. 1, 2009
This one was just ok for us. We love the poppers with the jalapenos stuffed with cream cheese and wrapped in bacon. I'm not sure why this didn't work for us. It was just average. My cooking time was much longer than the 20 minutes. I pulled mine off at 30 minutes and they were still not done. Thanks for sharing.

Breaded Toasted Ravioli

Reviewed: May 30, 2009
I made the recipe exactly as written only used panko bread crumbs instead of regular bread crumbs. If I made this again I would add A LOT more spice to the breading mixture. Fresh garlic, salt and pepper. I thought it was a little on the bland side even with the parm- and I added extra. I put foil on my baking sheet for easy clean up. Thanks for sharing. My daughter enjoyed this a lot.

Key Lime Pie VII

Reviewed: May 26, 2009
My 14 year old daughter made this. She LOVES key lime pie. Neither her father or I are big fans of it so this is her rating. It was easy enough to make without supervision for her. We also did not get the pinholes popping or as she said pine holes popping. We ended up with it in the oven for around 10 minutes then took it out. It set up fine.

Jimmy's Mexican Pizza

Reviewed: May 25, 2009
I would give this 3.5 stars if they would let me. This was easy to make and put together. My only complaint about the dish was that I was expecting the bottom tortilla to get crisp with the cooking spray on the pan and it actually got soggy with the beans. This would be a great busy night meal. Thanks for sharing.

Sausage and Bean Ragout

Reviewed: May 22, 2009
Very, very tasty!! Unfortunately I forgot to add the pasta due to one to many glasses of wine. We loved it and thought the pasta would have been great in it. I will make this again. Thanks for the recipe.

Garlic Chicken with Orzo Noodles

Reviewed: May 21, 2009
This was fast and simple to make with things I have in my pantry. I followed the recipe exactly with the only exception being that I cooked the orzo in chicken stock instead of water. I thought it was a decent economical meal. It was a tad on the spicy side which I was surprised about. If you don't have a spicy pallet I would cut the red pepper down to 1/8 t or your might find it very spicy. I would probably give this 3.5 stars if they let me. Thanks for sharing.

Spicy Oven Fried Chicken

Reviewed: May 19, 2009
I'm on the fence about this one. I made exactly as stated just used bone in chicken instead. I was thinking I could skip the browning in the pan step, but wanted to make it the first time as written. I think next time I will skip that step and throw it in the oven. I did have some problems with the breading, but I think it was all the handling of the chicken from frying pan to the oven pan. I did not find it to spicy- just a hint. I used tabasco in the buttermilk mixture. You could taste it, but not the heat of it. My kids ate it no problem. I would probably give this 3.5 stars. Thanks for sharing.

Tacos De Matamoros

Reviewed: May 14, 2009
I thought this was a decent way to make taco meat. Someone else on this site talked about cooking your ground beef in water for some other recipes. I will probably make this again. Thanks for sharing.

Slow Cooker Latin Chicken

Reviewed: May 7, 2009
So here is the thing. This has some major possibilities. I followed the directions to a t except I didn't have any red bell pepper. I think you can skip the browning the chicken part- the skin gets yucky (slimy) when you put it in the slow cooker. I thought it could have used A LOT more spice. I did dig the combo of black beans, and yams (there were no sweet potatoes at the market the produce guy said only in the fall) I served it over rice. This made a big quantity of food. I will probably make it again, but with some changes. Thanks for sharing.

Easy Slow Cooker Chicken Wings

Reviewed: Apr. 30, 2009
This was ok in a pinch. I like the wings better baked. The sauce does get watery and does not stay on the wings. I tried to thicken it up with corn starch. I also put the wings under the brioler to dry them up a bit. Thanks for sharing.

Mom's Brussels Sprouts

Reviewed: Apr. 27, 2009
I love brussels sprouts. What I didn't like about this recipe was the allspice and the nutmeg. I think I would have enjoyed it more with the butter and brown sugar only with some salt. Thanks for sharing.

Uncle White's Bread Machine Rolls

Reviewed: Apr. 26, 2009
These were ok for us. They were very dense and I didn't get a good rise from them. My buttermilk was not heated or at room temp which I thought might have affected that. These still don't beat the taste of my personal favorite from this site. Thanks for sharing.

This was tasty and different. Next time I will half the amounts because it made a lot of spice mixture. Sweet and savory and made a very moist chicken. Thanks for sharing.

Sweet and Spicy Tuna Salad

Reviewed: Apr. 24, 2009
Yes, yes, yes! Finally a tuna salad that is simple, but complex and worth a second try for sure. Heres the thing the author says: "you can adjust ingredient amounts for a personalized taste." I did just that. Knowing that 1/2 C of relish would be way to much and 1/8t of Sriracha would be way to little. I went with 1 tablespoon of both. Sweet and savory and surprising good! Thanks for sharing I will make this again.

New Wife Tuna Salad

Reviewed: Apr. 20, 2009
I wish we could give 1/2 stars here- I probably would give this a 3.5. This is good a little different than how I usually make my tuna. I didn't have dill relish just sweet, although, I actually prefer dill. If I made again I would omit the celery seed. I always find it to be bitter and with the real thing in it I didn't think it needed it. I liked the idea of the hard boiled eggs. Thanks for sharing.

The Best Bean and Ham Soup

Reviewed: Apr. 20, 2009
Very good bean soup. Not like traditional bean soup, but good non the less. I made the recipe exactly as written with the changes the submitter made in her review. I just stuck the ham bone in the pot and didn't add any extra ham and it was fine- loads of meat actually. I did have to add a lot of chicken stock to keep it thinned out (2 32oz boxes) during the cooking. I didn't find it needed any extra seasoning after the bone came out. The ham I used was a Kirland spiral cut with out the glaze. This made a lot of soup and we will eat it again this week on a busy night. Thanks for sharing- this will be my go to recipe from now on.
