I am 18 years old and i am desperatly trying out how to run a house without my mothers help she is away and i am looking after my father who is rather particular about dinner.Thus my sudden apearence online in an attempt to find good food that he can't complain about. I love cooking but not when i have an audience.
My favorite things to cook
i love cakes and cookies i have a terrible sweet tooth.I also enjoy good for you food though like salads and vegies. I have a weakness for fruit and fruit pies.
My favorite family cooking traditions
At Thanksgiving or "Thanksmas" as we call it we allways make pumpkin rolls and obviously pumpkin pie. Turkey is also a tradition along with tollhouse choco.chip cookies which are a favorite in the family. At christmas though we always bake a ham and make these killer difficult chocolate covered cherry cookies which are well worth the trouble as well as increadably simple russian tea cakes which are my personal favorites.
My cooking triumphs
Once i made some pretty yummy chocolate butter cream icing. I was really proud of myself for that cause it was rather complicatede i didn't burn the chocolate or the simmering sugarwater heated the eggs just right i was so happy7 the the only probblem was it went on the cake that fallows.
My cooking tragedies
I made this cake twice both happened to terrible failures.It was suposed to be a checkerboard cake the pattern turned out fine but it was like a three layered biscottie! Hard as a rock and made a wonderful doorstop!The second time I made that cake it tasted like baking soda. Just plain NASTY!I still don't understand how i ruined it both times but i did next time i think i'll just find a different recipe.

Baked Honey Mustard Chicken
next time i'll try the dijon instead. the mustard i used overpowered all the other flavors but my dad really liked it. Its a definate keeper in our recipe box.

Oatmeal Peanut Butter Cookies
Aboslutly delicious! but the peanut butter flavor is not that strong. It still has a wonderful crunch.

Downeast Maine Pumpkin Bread
This is one of the best pumpkin bread recipes i've used.It is moist and the flavors are light. My only problem was that i reside in an erea of high altitude and the tops of my larger loaves fell in.
