About this Cook
My favorite family cooking traditions
I don't remember how many years ago we started doing this ... but my favorite family cooking tradition was having a non-traditional Christmas meal that would involve everyone in the kitchen. I've always thought that it wasn't fair that one person got stuck in the kitchen while others socialized. NO FAIR!! Christmas of 2005 was the first Christmas that I shared this family tradition. My boyfriend and I made Cannelloni and tomato based fish soup (Pescatore') There is only so much turkey and ham that one can eat. ;-)
My cooking tragedies
I haven't had any extremes (yet). No substituting salt for sugar (i've heard about that happening) or leaving something unattended and it burnt/over cooked. I'll let you know when it does happen.

Baked Maryland Lump Crab Cakes
I wanted so bad to think that this recipe was going to be "the" crab cake recipe but it fell short. The flavor was so-so and the cake itself was dry.

Fresh Strawberry Upside Down Cake
I wanted SO bad to like this cake but couldn't get past the fake tasting strawberry goo. Sad to have wasted such wonderful strawberries.

Harvest Salad
Wonderful salad. I normally don't make changes to recipes but I decided to use what I had on hand. Instead of walnuts I candied some pecans = 1/2 cup pecans to a 1/2 cup sugar which were candied in a skillet. Didn't have avocado, but will add this next time. Very beautiful presentation too. Thanks Tiffany!
