Honey Ginger Shrimp

Reviewed: Aug. 27, 2006
Wow, This was very tasty. I also decreased the hot pepper flakes. I used about 1 tsp, which was plenty hot enough for us. I increased the honey, too, about 1 T. in all. I served this with cocoanut rice. The flavours were amazing together. Thanks for posting.

Microwave Caramel Popcorn

Reviewed: Nov. 15, 2005
Ok, this is soooo good. I have made caramel popcorn the "old fashioned" way many times. Never again. This was so easy and quick and tastes just as good (if not better) than traditional. Couple of notes though: First, real butter is so much better and worth the extra cost because you can really taste the difference. Second, my butter/brown sugar mix boiled over in the m/w and made a big sticky mess which I then had to put the bag on, so I suggest you put a plate under the bowl to catch any mess. Third, I used m/w popcorn, I just omitted the salt and ate some while the butter/sugar mix was cooking. My bag says that each bag makes 10 cups, so it's about 4 cups too much. I used two bags (most of two bags, anyway) Terrific recipe, LOVE IT. Thanks.

Fry Bread Tacos II

Reviewed: Dec. 9, 2004
I also did my own thing with the toppings and meat. The fry bread was great. We also had it as a dessert (after the tacos) Having it prepared FRESH makes all the difference. Awesome.

Awesome Slow Cooker Pot Roast

Reviewed: Nov. 13, 2004
This was a very tasty pot roast. I cooked it in the oven at 400 for 3 hours (I was in a hurry). I added carrots, celery, onions and new potatoes after 1 1/2 hours. My roast was a 5 pound cross rib roast. It was cooked to perfection, very tender and moist. The vegetables were also perfect. The gravy was thick and tasty. It was surprising that it did not taste like mushroom and onion soup, but like a very tasty gravy. Very nice!! Will definately make again.

Best Ever Pie Crust

Reviewed: Oct. 10, 2004
I have been making homemade pies for over 20 years. I have always used the tenderflake recipe which is very similar to this one, with the same ingredients but different proportions. I decided to try this one, based on all the rave reviews. Boy am I glad I tried it. It is sooooooo delicious and flaky, but also......it is VERY easy to work with, no holes or tears to patch, and also, can be very successfully made in the food processor (and not all crusts can!). I also re-rolled the left overs and they were also good, sometimes pastry is too tender to handle a second rolling and still be tender and flaky, this one can. I will use this recipe from now on. I would give it 10 stars, if possible. I used 1/3 cup ice cold water and froze the shortening in cubes because I was in a hurry and didnt have time to chill the dough, it worked great. Texture was perfect with 1/3 cup water. Awesome!! Thanks!!

Grilled Chicken Breasts with Zesty Peanut Sauce

Reviewed: Jul. 15, 2004
This was pretty tasty. I was pressed for time and only marinated the chicken for about 20 minutes. It would have undoubtedly benefitted from longer marinating time. The peanut sauce was also quite good. I did, however, find it a bit too peanuty even though I really like thai influenced foods. Overall, a good recipe.

No Bake Cheesecake I

Reviewed: Jul. 15, 2004
Wow. This was really tasty. I have been looking for a GOOD cheesecake recipe that I can modify to have less carbs and still be creamy and yummy. I used splenda instead of the sugar and made it crustless. It was fab. After reading other reviews, I decided to half the lemon juice. I was glad I did because it was perfect. Any more lemon and it would have been to lemony. Thanks for a great recipe.

Grandpa's Popcorn Balls

Reviewed: Dec. 12, 2003
oh boy, these are really good. It is really important to reach hard crack stage with these candies. To test for hard crack stage without a candy thermometer, use the ice water method. Have nearby a bowl of ice water. Periodically test the syrup to see if it has reached hard crack. To do this, drizzle a small amount of syrup off of a spoon into the cold water. When it has reached hard crack stage, it will form treads in the water. When you take the threads out of the water, they will be hard and brittle. If they are still soft and pliable, or if it forms a ball instead of threads, keep cooking and checking until you get hard, brittle threads.

Grilled Spicy Lamb Burgers

Reviewed: Apr. 4, 2003
Yummy, Yummy, Yummy!! I raise sheep, so always have lots of lamb on hand and I am always looking for good lamb recipes. This one is great. I didn't have any fresh mint, so used 3 mint tea bags (make sure it has no additives) also, I had no sherry or wine so used angastura bitters. This lamb burger was so tasty and did hold together well. My family gave it 5 stars, even the kids. Will serve this often this coming summer. Thanks for the great recipe.

Harvest Rice Dish

Reviewed: Feb. 21, 2003
I struggled with how to rate this recipe. I, personally, loved it. I think it is absolutely full of flavour and beautiful to look at. My family, however did not like it. I still make it, mostly for myself and maybe for company. It is also good left over and retains all the flavour. Too bad my crew doesnt like it. I actually thought that they would because they are not very fussy eaters.

Indonesian Pork Satay

Reviewed: Feb. 13, 2003
This was so awesome. I made it last nite and my 4 kids devoured it. I was surprised there was any left (I even doubled the recipe), but they argued over who got the left overs. Totally yummy, totally easy. 5 stars, for sure. I served it with pad thai, it was perfect. I baked it (its winter here) at 450 for about 8 minutes. It was nicely done.

Rempel Family Meatloaf

Reviewed: Feb. 9, 2003
This meat loaf was quite good. I had mixed reviews from my kids, two loved it and two hated it. I added a glaze of ketchup, lemon juice, steak sauce and mustard powder. I really like the addition of a glaze. My only complaint with this meatloaf is that it didn't hold together well, even after significant cooling. Maybe some added cracker crumbs and egg might improve the sticking quality. Overall, excellent taste, good texture.

Chocolate Chip Pumpkin Bread

Reviewed: Feb. 9, 2003
This bread was great. I made the following changes: added 1/2 as much again pumpkin puree, replaced 3/4 of the oil with applesauce, added ginger and cloves, also added 1 cup flax meal to replace 1 cup flour, replaced 1/2 of sugar with splenda. These changes made a much healthier loaf. This bread was awesome. DELISH!! My 4 kids eat the whole recipe in one day!! I also baked as loaf and mini muffins. Kids love mini muffins!!

Snowballs II

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2002
my mum made these wonderful cookies every Christmas when I was a child. We loved them!!!! I had lost the recipe, and was THRILLED to find it here. It is perfect, as is. I made them yesterday. I expected my 4 children might like them, but I thought they would prefer other cookies, because these are not that sweet. When I asked them tonight, which cookie they like the best, they all agreed. This is the BEST Christmas cookie mum has ever made (and I usually bake at least 20 different kinds!!!) Thank you, thank you, Thank you.

Almost No Fat Banana Bread

Reviewed: Dec. 2, 2002
I was looking for a great low fat banana bread. This is it, but I did tweak the recipe a bit. I added nutmeg instead of cinnamon and also vanilla as others had suggested. I also added 1/2 tsp salt, which I believe is the "missing" ingredient some reviewers were talking about. With these changes the bread was FAB!!!
