Cockpit Security!
About this Cook
Father of six, Grandpa to twelve! Retired Air Force Reserve, current airline pilot for an international air freight company
My favorite things to cook
Barbecue ribs, outdoor grilling, low-carb recipes, holiday cooking
My favorite family cooking traditions
My family once owned a southern pit BBQ restaurant and the tradition and recipe has been passed down to me. I get raves on my secret sauce and ribs. As a divorce father of six for 12 years, I had to learn to cook rather than take the kids out.
My cooking triumphs
Ribs, Ribs and more Ribs! Generally, besides good BBQ, good family fare and comfort foods.
My cooking tragedies
Mostly baking, I've not much talent for it. One of my daughters more than makes up for it with her own cupcake business!

Heather's Famous Barbeque Bunyan Burger
Excellent! We loved it! The only thing I did different was to omit the chipotle peppers because my wife can't handle the spice and heat. The only difficulty I had was it got a little too done on the bottom. Perhaps my grill was too hot. Next time, I might try completely wrapping the whole thing in foil and turn it once during cooking to minimize the burning.

Steff's Shepherd Pie
Great recipe! I made a couple modifications to suit our dietary needs. First, I like low-carb so instead of mashed potatoes, I used mock-mashed potatoes made from cauliflower. I found the recipe at About.com http://homecooking.about.com/od/vegetablerecipes/r/blv316.htm Next, my wife was recently diagnosed with allergies to both gluten and soy. I couldn't find any gravies, canned, jarred, powdered or otherwise that didn't have gluten, soy or both. So, I tried sloppy joe mix. It turned out great!
