Felix K.'s 'Don't even try to say these aren't the best you've ever eaten, because they are' Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Jul. 25, 2009
I'm not going to try to say these aren't the best because wow! I was digging the explosion of flavor in my mouth when I was eating these! These cookies are like the ones you get at a bakery. I did not deviate from the recipe at all! Crispy edges, moist centers. Wow. Very good. Make sure you let them cool the whole time.

Old Fashioned Sicilian Succo

Reviewed: Jul. 18, 2009
I know everyone raves about this recipe, but it wasn't that great. It needs salt and some extra seasoning. And the meatballs were a bit bland.

Austin Margarita (aka Mexican Martini)

Reviewed: Jul. 18, 2009
This was pretty tasty. I used tequila gold because I do not like silver, and Triple Sec in place of orange juice and Cointreau. And the olive, strangely enough, tasted really good in the drink!

Pizza Salad II

Reviewed: Jul. 5, 2009
It does not taste like pizza, it tastes like your average pasta salad. But, it was well received at the 4th of July BBQ I brought it too, so I would make it again.

Chocolate French Toast

Reviewed: Jun. 28, 2009
Just OK. I like regular french toast much better, and this did not look appealing at all. You will have to whisk the mix very well to add in the cocoa (otherwise it will not blend in). I think next time I will just add a tablespoon or so of cocoa to my regular french toast batter, because it did add a good flavor, but I don't think it should be the main taste.

Really great but since I like my teeth and want to keep them, I only used 2 cups of sugar, and following reviewers suggestions, used 1 cup of white and 1 cup of brown.

I was expecting more. The potatoes were creamy but nothing special, flavor wise.

Neat Sloppy Joes

Reviewed: Jun. 18, 2009
These are some seriously yummy sloppy joes. I did add a dash of hot sauce to liven it up a bit. I cut the ground beef down to only 1 lb, and also halved all other ingredients except the tomato soup (why waste half a can?). Sprinkled the meat with celery seed and onion powder as it cooked, left out the onion, and added one chopped garlic clove. Loved it and so did hubby. thank you!

Breaded Toasted Ravioli

Reviewed: Jun. 2, 2009
Really good. I dipped in flour first, washed with a whole egg (didn't want to waste the yolk), then dunked in the crumbs (I used Italian seasoning and garlic salt in place of the basil and whatever else it called for), then sprayed with the cooking spray. This made for a nice, crispy coating and I still felt better eating them since they weren't fried (hey, you gotta save the calories where you can)! I think turning the ravioli would be much more trouble than it's worth and I would not recommend doing so. For dipping, I made an alfredo sauce and a pizza sauce and sprinkled everything with fresh parsley and parmesan. Fantastic! Thank you for submitting this recipe chefspecialty.

Alfredo Sauce

Reviewed: Jun. 2, 2009
Absolutely a cinch to make and so creamy. Since I was using this only as a dipping sauce for some toasted ravioli, I cut the recipe in half (but used a whole clove of garlic still). I subbed asiago cheese for the parmesan, since I have a huge big bag of it in my freezer I need to use up, and it worked great. I would really have a hard time using so much fresh parmesan, because the good stuff is soo expensive (and I only buy the good stuff)! I will make this again.

Chicken Cordon Bleu II

Reviewed: May 31, 2009
Definitely deserving of its reputation. I have tried many hall of famers here and not all of them are worthy but this is. I pounded the chicken very thin, and since I am not a fan of swiss I used provolone and proscuitto in place of ham. Worked great. Then I rolled and secured with dried spaghetti noodles. Thank you thank you thank you to the submitter who suggested that, it's just about the best kitchen tip I've ever received! I pan fried the chicken in half butter/half olive oil until brown, and preheated (at 350 degrees) a baking dish lined with foil while doing so. Then I baked the chicken for 15 minutes while I simmered the wine (used a $5.00 Pinot Grigio)and bouillon. After about 10 minutes I added the chicken back to the pan, added the cream and then baked for about 5 minutes more. Finally, I removed the chicken, whisked the sauce, and served it. I let my dinner guests top their chicken with as much or as little sauce as they like. Everyone loved it, it was devoured, and my husband told me twice it's the best dish I've ever made. Coming from him, that's a big compliment! And I agree that the wine is not optional. Only leave it out if you really have to.

Perfect Cheesecake Everytime

Reviewed: May 26, 2009
I got this recipe from the submitter way back on the recipe exchange and it is the best cheesecake I have ever made or eaten. The flavor is great, the texture is creamy, and it's not complicated to make. I cannot say enough good things about this recipe. Bravo to allrecipes for finally publishing it!

Habichuelas Guisadas

Reviewed: May 25, 2009
This was a fantastic dish. I made no changes whatsoever. So good, in fact, that I am taking the leftovers for my lunch tomorrow, as the main dish! The only reason I am not giving this 5 stars is because they never thickened up and were very thin.

Black Magic Cake

Reviewed: May 25, 2009
This was really good but quite frankly, not the best I've ever had. Moist yes, tasty yes, but a recipe I will mention to friends and family? Nope. I didn't have buttermilk so I just made my own by adding 1 tablespoon of vinegar to my liquid measuring cup, then added milk until I had the specific amount of milk called for. Let it sit for 10 minutes, stirred, and voila! Homemade buttermilk. To make strong coffee I added 1 c of water (measured in a liquid measuring cup) to my coffeemaker (which is 2 cups according to the coffeemaker) and added 3 Tbls of coffee. I let it cool, then added it to the ingredients. Make sure to scrape down the sides of the bowl while beating so everything is mixed well. You will need to bake the full 40 minutes, and the batter will be very thin, thin like water so don't be alarmed. When you remove from the pans, be SURE to line the racks with parchment paper or you will lose half of your cake on the rack! I frosted with a chocolate buttercream.

Cinnamon Griddle Cakes

Reviewed: May 17, 2009
Hello sugar rush! These really are a cross between a pancake and a cinnamon roll. These are good as a treat, but too sweet to take the place of reg pancakes. I did add the corn syrup but only about a fourth of the sugar called for and trust me, you can leave the syrup out. Once you add the glaze you would never miss it. And the glaze made the whole thing, the only complaint I have is it tastes more like a frosting for a cake then a topping on a cinnamon roll.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough + Cupcake = The BEST Cupcake. Ever.

Reviewed: May 10, 2009
Nobody I know likes vanilla cupcakes so I used devils food mix instead. I used premade cookie dough to save on time and cleanup and it worked great! Huge hit, loved by all, gobbled up immediately, and the kids (and adults) all had fun trying to guess what the surprise inside was. I will definitely make again!

Lemon Custard Filling

Reviewed: May 1, 2009
This did not taste good, and even though I followed the directions precisely, as soon as I spread this between the layers and put the top cake on, it went splat down the sides. Not thick enough to be a filling, and not tasty enough either. Had to scrape it off the cake and throw it out. A waste of my time and my ingredients. I cannot recommend this recipe.

Gerry's Chicken Enchiladas

Reviewed: Apr. 6, 2009
This is a great recipe. I had it done in no time because I prepared the sauce, and took cooked chicken (I had leftovers from a chicken I roasted for soup the other night), seasoned with chili powder and cumin, and added it once the sauce had simmered a while. Also, I just used plain tomatoes and one can of diced chiles (not big on heat in this household). Once the chicken heated through, I made the enchiladas. I really liked this recipe, and thought dipping the tortillas in the cream was a nice touch. It was a snap to prepare this way.
