Perfect Cheesecake Everytime

Reviewed: May 26, 2009
I got this recipe from the submitter way back on the recipe exchange and it is the best cheesecake I have ever made or eaten. The flavor is great, the texture is creamy, and it's not complicated to make. I cannot say enough good things about this recipe. Bravo to allrecipes for finally publishing it!

Habichuelas Guisadas

Reviewed: May 25, 2009
This was a fantastic dish. I made no changes whatsoever. So good, in fact, that I am taking the leftovers for my lunch tomorrow, as the main dish! The only reason I am not giving this 5 stars is because they never thickened up and were very thin.

Black Magic Cake

Reviewed: May 25, 2009
This was really good but quite frankly, not the best I've ever had. Moist yes, tasty yes, but a recipe I will mention to friends and family? Nope. I didn't have buttermilk so I just made my own by adding 1 tablespoon of vinegar to my liquid measuring cup, then added milk until I had the specific amount of milk called for. Let it sit for 10 minutes, stirred, and voila! Homemade buttermilk. To make strong coffee I added 1 c of water (measured in a liquid measuring cup) to my coffeemaker (which is 2 cups according to the coffeemaker) and added 3 Tbls of coffee. I let it cool, then added it to the ingredients. Make sure to scrape down the sides of the bowl while beating so everything is mixed well. You will need to bake the full 40 minutes, and the batter will be very thin, thin like water so don't be alarmed. When you remove from the pans, be SURE to line the racks with parchment paper or you will lose half of your cake on the rack! I frosted with a chocolate buttercream.

Cinnamon Griddle Cakes

Reviewed: May 17, 2009
Hello sugar rush! These really are a cross between a pancake and a cinnamon roll. These are good as a treat, but too sweet to take the place of reg pancakes. I did add the corn syrup but only about a fourth of the sugar called for and trust me, you can leave the syrup out. Once you add the glaze you would never miss it. And the glaze made the whole thing, the only complaint I have is it tastes more like a frosting for a cake then a topping on a cinnamon roll.

Italian Marinated Chicken

This is all my husband ever uses to marinate chicken. EVER. We prefer to grill it though, better flavor.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough + Cupcake = The BEST Cupcake. Ever.

Reviewed: May 10, 2009
Nobody I know likes vanilla cupcakes so I used devils food mix instead. I used premade cookie dough to save on time and cleanup and it worked great! Huge hit, loved by all, gobbled up immediately, and the kids (and adults) all had fun trying to guess what the surprise inside was. I will definitely make again!

Lemon Custard Filling

Reviewed: May 1, 2009
This did not taste good, and even though I followed the directions precisely, as soon as I spread this between the layers and put the top cake on, it went splat down the sides. Not thick enough to be a filling, and not tasty enough either. Had to scrape it off the cake and throw it out. A waste of my time and my ingredients. I cannot recommend this recipe.

Gerry's Chicken Enchiladas

Reviewed: Apr. 6, 2009
This is a great recipe. I had it done in no time because I prepared the sauce, and took cooked chicken (I had leftovers from a chicken I roasted for soup the other night), seasoned with chili powder and cumin, and added it once the sauce had simmered a while. Also, I just used plain tomatoes and one can of diced chiles (not big on heat in this household). Once the chicken heated through, I made the enchiladas. I really liked this recipe, and thought dipping the tortillas in the cream was a nice touch. It was a snap to prepare this way.

Ten Minute Enchilada Sauce

Reviewed: Apr. 6, 2009
This was great! Nothing to it. I just used the regular chili powder I had in the cabinet, and didn't have self rising flour so I added a dash of baking powder and pinch of salt. Very good and saved the day (and dinner).

Restaurant-Quality Baked Potato Soup

Neither my husband nor I enjoyed this. I followed the instructions precisely, but didn't think this had a good flavor or appearance. I will not make again.

Creamy Vidalia Onion Soup

Reviewed: Mar. 22, 2009
I thought this soup was just OK. For those who wonder, it DID NOT taste like Outbacks creamy onion soup. I tasted this without the eggs and it was very, very watery, but once I added them the soup was a great consistency. Flavorwise, this was very sweet, and the onion flavor was presented nicely, but I just wasn't crazy about it, and I know it's pyschological, but knowing there was eggs in it just bothered me. I won't make it again.

Strawberry Rosewater Ice Cream

Reviewed: Mar. 21, 2009
This has a very unique flavor. I did not find it to be sweet at all. I could really taste the rosewater. I read Naples review with caution and churned my ice cream and then added the rosewater. Voila, perfect consistency! I added a drop of red food coloring to make it a pretty pink color. Also, I replaced the egg yolks with egg beaters. Very unique recipe, glad I tried it! Thank you for sharing.

Swiss Chicken

Chicken was overcooked, and the meat itself was bland. The dish did not look good. I also did not think the cheese belonged. I will not make again.

Poppy Seed Chicken II

Reviewed: Feb. 7, 2009
This is a very good, simple recipe. To give it a bit more flavor I added just a dash of sherry to the sour cream mixture. Also, for variation you can crush croutons in place of the butter crackers.

Mock Lobster

Reviewed: Feb. 4, 2009
Does it taste like lobster? No. But was it fantastically delicious? Yes! Soy sauce is plenty enough salt, so I used garlic powder in place of garlic salt, and am still thirsty, hours after eating. We did dip this in melted clarified butter. I will make this again.

Swift Spaghetti

Reviewed: Feb. 3, 2009
Well, I was so excited to be the first to review this recipe that I was going to post a photo of it too! But, there was no way I could make it look appetizing and I hate it when people post photos of recipes that look bad. But about the actual recipe. This is not a traditional spaghetti recipe. I made no changes to the recipe at all, except that I had to use fettuccine noodles. Obviously it is very soupy, the sauce does not thicken at all. And the beef picked up no flavor from the sauce whatsoever! But, once I got over the horrid appearance of it I actually enjoyed it. I would make again, but I think I'd use Italian sausage in place of beef. Thank you for sharing. Oh yes, one more thing - be sure to serve this in a bowl, not on a plate. You'll thank me later!

Buffalo Chicken Wings II

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2009
This is a good recipe but has one serious flaw, the cooking time is NOT LONG enough and undercooked chicken is to be avoided at all costs. I baked these at 350 for 25 minutes, then turned and baked at 425 for about 30 minutes more. There is no way they would've been done following the instructions precisely. Otherwise, flavor was good, recipe was easy, and I love baking instead of frying wings because it's much better for you. I'd use this recipe again. Oh, and I used 3 Tablespoons of hot sauce, because I misread the directions, and that actually worked out better. And omitted the salt.
