No Bake Chocolate Oat Bars

Reviewed: May 23, 2010
I had to edit this review. I'd give it no stars if it were an option. My original review of 3 stars was based on a small taste I had & the fact that these cookies *looked* good. After letting them set for a day....it's beyond me how this recipe has so many stars. After attempting to taste test a whole cookie, before serving these at a family dinner, I decided to trash the whole batch and kiss $10 worth of ingredients good bye. (I doubled the recipe.) The fat & calorie content really bothered me.....but these cookies really didn't taste that good. Chewy & VERY buttery, but with out any real flavor. Which is beyond me, given all the chocolate & peanut butter. All I tasted was butter. I did take one bar to dinner so my family could test these. The comments ranged from "no flavor" to "too much butter" to just plain "nasty". I'm all for a rich dessert every now and then, but this recipe is totally not worth the calories or the $ you'll spend on ingredients. My first review is below: Heart attack in a cookie.....These are good but I doubt I'll make them again, simply because of the outrageous fat & calorie content. When I want a cookie, I want a COOKIE, not two bites with hundreds of calories. The picture looks good....and I had decided to make these for a family get together before I took a close look at the recipe. Easy to make, but way way to rich for my taste.

Yeast Pancakes

Reviewed: Jan. 24, 2010
EXACTLY what I was hoping for! These were fluffy, thick and light! I also thought the pancakes tasted a little bready or sour when eaten plain, but it wasn't a bad taste, only different from what I'm used to. I thought they tasted great with a little butter and syrup. Excellent when we ate the leftovers with some home made blueberry syrup and whipped cream! I didn't have any quick start yeast, so I started my yeast in a cup of the milk. I also added more sugar; I used my other pancake recipe as a guide and used 3T of sugar in these pancakes. I found my new pancake recipe! Oh, & this recipe made a lot of pancakes, when using the 1/4 cup measure as suggested. My family of three (2 adults & a 3 year old) had generous servings for two lunches, with 3 pancakes left over.

Garlic Chicken Fried Chicken

Reviewed: Jan. 8, 2010
Very good! My complaint with other fried chicken recipes I've tried has been lack of flavor - the garlic powder & pepper gave this a great taste. Hubby was impressed and my little guy ate it up. We'll use this recipe again!

Chocolate Cream Cheese Frosting

Reviewed: Jul. 19, 2009
Very good! I found myself out of butter (!) so I was glad to have found this recipe. Perfect balance of cream cheese / sweet chocolate taste. I used all 4 cups of powdered sugar and the recipe made plenty of icing to frost & fill a 9 inch 2 layer cake.

Black Magic Cake

Reviewed: Jul. 19, 2009
Excellent! Don't be concerned by the thin batter. This cake baked perfectly and was easy to frost. Wonderful chocolate taste. My whole family loved it; will definitely make this again!

Banana Pudding I

Reviewed: Jan. 29, 2009
Wonderful and super easy! I was just looking for a basic vanilla pudding recipe and this will be the one I go to. I used 2% milk and the pudding turned out nice and thick. Great texture, even with the egg whites included. I made it a 2nd time last night and melted in 6 oz of semi sweet chocolate with the butter and vanilla - wonderful! The only reason I'm not giving the recipe 5 stars is because it does make a rather small batch. I doubled the recipe to feed 9 people. There was about 3 servings left over.

Garden Fresh Tomato Soup

Reviewed: Sep. 27, 2008
Great recipe! I'm preparing to make another batch now to use up some of the last tomatoes from my plants. I did think it was a bit too salty, so I'm going to cut back on the salt this time. Otherwise, wonderful!

Quick and Easy Pizza Crust

Reviewed: Jul. 7, 2008
Wonderful! I loved the taste. My hubby said that he was "very impressed with the crust". He doesn't really get excited about anything home baked, so you know it had to be good! I plan to use this as "my" pizza crust recipe.

Soft Chocolate Cookies

Reviewed: Apr. 17, 2008
These cookies are wonderful! I made them 2 days ago and have been storing them in a ziploc bag. These cookies are soft, a little chewy, and taste just like a brownie. This will definitely be a repeat recipe at our house!

Chocolate Chip Peanut Butter Blondies

Reviewed: Mar. 10, 2008
Really, really good, and really easy! I'll definitely make these again. I like that the recipe didn't call for brown sugar, because I don't always have that on hand. These aren't "too sweet" and have just the right amount of chocolate & peanut butter taste. They turned out great using a 10x15 pan.

Pennsylvania Dutch Corn Pie

Reviewed: Mar. 10, 2008
Great recipe! Very easy. I only gave it 4 stars because I think the bake time is too long. I followed the recipe instructions using a ready made pie dough and the crust was really dark brown when the timer went off. I'll reduce the baking time next time I make this.

Apple Crisp IV

Reviewed: Feb. 4, 2008
Very good! Perfect comfort food! I only gave it 4 stars though, because I had to agree with some other posters that it was a little dry. I think next time I'll soak the apples first. It is really good hot, with a little bit of milk though! Would be great w/ some vanilla ice cream. I also tossed 2 T of sugar into the apples before adding them to the baking dish. I liked the crumb topping just as it was. The bottom crust got a little doughy. I think next time I might try to bake that for 10 minutes or so, then add the apples and the remaining topping. I would definitely make it again!

Mom's Baked Macaroni and Cheese

Reviewed: Feb. 3, 2008
Really good! Not as great as the "from scratch" macaroni and cheese that my mom used to make, but really good for a quick dinner. Has the home made feel to it. I've made it quite a few times since finding this recipe and plan to again.

Chocolate Chip Cheesecake Brownies

Reviewed: Feb. 3, 2008
OK, I ate them. My husband and brother really liked them. I thought the chocolate chip brownie part was ok, but I couldn't get over the egg taste in the cream cheese filling. I didn't have any problem assembling them though. The cheesecake filling whipped up nice and thick, and was very easy to work with. I might try this recipe again if I alter the filling.

Whoopie Pies VIII

Reviewed: Sep. 1, 2006
Great recipe! These taste just like the whoopie pies I remember from my childhood. I wasn't sure about the icing at first, but it tasted great after chilling the filled pies in the fridge. This is the recipe I've been searching for, and will definately be making these again!
