Zucchini Chocolate Orange Cake

Reviewed: Jul. 18, 2003
This was a very generous and yummy cake. I made it to take to a meeting and it was a winner, with lots of comments and people asking for the recipe. The only thing I would change is to reduce the baking soda, as I could taste it in the cake. As others commented, I added extra orange juice to the cake when making it and this worked well to balance the flavour.

Cookies 'n Cream Cake

Reviewed: Feb. 10, 2003
I liked the appearance of this cake and the idea is very novel. However, I was a bit disappointed with the finished product - it was a bit ordinary. Perhaps I didn't have the best cake mix or cookies!

Easy Pavlova

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2003
This pavlova recipe turned out really well. It was marshmellowy in the middle and crisp on the outside. I substituted brown malt vinegar for the lemon juice and also used strawberries for decoration and everyone raved about it. I have cooked pavlova's before but had trouble finding a recipe that gave the marshmellow texture - now that I've found this recipe, I'm sorted!

Chicken Broccoli Ca - Unieng's Style

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2003
This was a good recipe. I also increased the amount of oyster sauce and soy sauce and reduced the pepper (thanks to the other reviewers comments). I found the cooking time a bit long in this recipe and as a result, the broccoli became too soft. By reducing the times by about half, the recipe was much fresher and tender rather than soft.

Brown Rice, Broccoli, Cheese and Walnut Surprise

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2003
I was making this recipe and thinking to myself that the ingredients were too easy and wondering how it would combine. I thought it would be pretty boring, but my husband and I really enjoyed the flavours. This was a great recipe and I wouldn't hesitate to make it again. Next time, I will use normal brown rice (not instant) and cook some brown lentils in with the rice when boiling with the stock. I love the combination of lentils, onion and brown rice, so I think it will make this recipe a 5 1/2 star one!!

Spinach and Mushroom Pinwheels

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2003
These looked and tasted fantastic. There was enough from this recipe to make two generous plates of pinwheels, which I took to two different parties. I left the rolls frozen until the day I needed them and then defrosted slightly to cut into pinwheel rounds. The rounds cut very well when the rolls were still partially frozen and were very even, cut this way. Lots of people at the two parties I went to asked for the recipe, which shows how popular this recipe is.

Cookie in a Jar

Reviewed: Dec. 19, 2002
I was looking at different cookie mixes in a jar to make for Christmas presents. This recipe was OK, but the crispy rice cereal tended to go hard and chewy in the finished product. I liked that the recipe was different and it looked great in the jar with all the different textures and colours, but there are other cookie in a jar mixes that I prefer.

Coffee Roast

Reviewed: Dec. 19, 2002
Whilst the roast turned out well and the flavour was not in any way offensive, I wouldn't really say that this recipe was very flavoursome. I like the recipe, however, for it's novelty value (ie the coffee)!

Grandma Minnie's Old Fashioned Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 19, 2002
This was a very easy and yummy recipe. I liked the fact that it was not necessary to chill the cookie dough, as I had only limited time to make cookies. I made star shapes and iced them with brightly coloured icing (red, green, blue and yellow) and put edible silver balls on the tip of each star point. They looked very festive for Christmas and went in a flash at the morning tea I took them to (lots of kids there!).

Honey Pork Oriental

Reviewed: Dec. 12, 2002
Both my husband and I enjoyed this dish. I found the cooking times were less than stated - I used pork diced into 2cm cubes. It was really easy and will be going into my recipe file!

Chocolate Cookie Mix in a Jar

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2002
This is a really delicious cookie. I made about 24 cookies from the mix instead of 36 (ie bigger than suggested) and cooked them for about 20 minutes. The baking soda/powder could be tasted slightly, so could be reduced, but it was not overpowering and didn't leave a bitter aftertaste. Also, I made the recipe with half choc chips and half white choc chips and it turned out great. Lastly, I made the order in the jar as follows: 1/2 flour, brown sugar, white sugar, cocoa, remaining flour (with baking powder and soda), choc chips, pecans. This gave a light, dark, light appearance to the mix in the jar. Thanks for the recipe, Jennifer - it's now one my favourites!!

Yummy Couscous Salad

Reviewed: Nov. 21, 2002
Thanks for this recipe! I have made it twice- the first time I only added 1/2 an onion and found it quite strong in the salad if you eat it by itself, but OK with other salads, BBQ meat etc. The second time I left out the onion and it was better (I don't really like onion, though, so that's why I liked it more without). Also I made it with 3/4 cup of Garlic and Pepper savoury yoghurt (Brownes brand, available here in Australia) instead of combining salad dressing and plain yoghurt and it was delicious!
