This is the first recipe I've ever rated - I admit I used some of the recommendations of others, and I have to say it was amazing. I made the clam chowder this past weekend for a community clambake - so I made enough for 30 people. It was so easy to increase the recipe size, and I got more compliments than I ever imagined. I was told it was the best clam chowder ever, and at the very least it was among the very best. Thanks for sharing this recipe, and thanks for all the great suggestions for improving it! The most important improvements included using the bacon grease, cooking the flour long enough not to leave a pasty taste, using a little less vinegar (I used white balsamic rather than red wine), and adding the old bay.
