About this Cook
I picked up a Taste of Home cookbook as a gift and realized that cranberries do go with pork and it was time to learn to really cook and not just prepare the foods I had grown up with
My favorite things to cook
I love the versatility of pasta and rice. But, I would skip the whole meal to make a killer dessert.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Gosh, I hope to establish some.
My cooking triumphs
Cheesecakes that I am asked to make for charity auctions, A chocolate layer cake that my daughter dubbed "the Eiffel Tower Cake," and a stuffed pork loin that brought me a marriage proposal from a confirmed batchelor.
My cooking tragedies
It is not unusual for me to try up to 5 new recipes in one week. Under those circumstances a weekly dud or 2 would be expected, sometimes I have 4. Nothing ventured, nothing gained, though.

Toad In a Hole
We called these "frogs in the pond." We used a cheese glass (you used to buy processed cheese spread in the glass jar and then keep the glass for juice) and grilled the round center with the rest of the dish then use that to dip in the egg yolk.

Turtle Cheesecake
I make cheesecake all of the time and this was fabulous, but I did make a few changes to avoid the extra mess that comes with melting caramel and chocolate. Instead of melting caramels, I used hot caramel ice cream topping. I didn't melt the chocolate chips, I sprinkled them over the pecan/caramel layer. I topped the whole thing with more caramel and chococolate chips.

Bearnaise Sauce II
This was a very good knockoff of traditional bearnaise. To be honest, I chose this version because you can cook the eggs long enough to get them done. But I kept eating it for the flavor. My only change was to substitute 1 T fresh tarragon from my kitchen garden for the 1 t dried. I don't think you can ever go wrong substituting fresh for dried. Served over asparagus topped char-broiled strip steak. Fabulous for Fathers's Day.
