I am a scientist who also has a passion for food, which was born from the time I spent as a child, helping her in the kitchen. I come from a long line of fabulous Southern cooks, but I also enjoy baking, gourmet cuisine, and a variety of ethnic foods.
My favorite things to cook
Southern cuisine and comfort foods are my favorite things to cook for others: You can "feel" the love in the rich, flavorful foods of the South!
I also love to bake, and have recently started decorating cakes for friends and family.
After being diagnosed with a heart condition, I now make it my mission to seek out flavorful, healthy recipes to show others that eating healthy can still be fun!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Every Christmas, my mom and I take to the kitchen, baking and making candy. This is where I have learned some of the most fabulous dessert recipes a girl could ask for. The best recipes are those handed down through the generations, like my mom's sweet potato casserole!
My cooking triumphs
My pie crust is awesomely flaky and tender--one of the best things I make! I have also started decorating cakes in the past couple of years, and my basket-weave designs always turn out so pretty!
My cooking tragedies
The first time I attempted to make freshly baked bread, I forgot to test the yeast...AND I over-mixed until the gluten was like concrete. My boyfriend at the time said the dough felt like a football :( It was so bad that, while trying to mix it, I snapped a Pampered Chef wooden spoon in half! Not my proudest moment...
