Slow Cooker Apple Cider Braised Pork

Reviewed: Feb. 28, 2014
This was really tender and juicy and the flavour was delicious. Family loved it. I served it over seasoned rice. It was easy to make and we have enough gravy/sauce to float the navy. LOL

Cauliflower-Cheese Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 6, 2014
This was a really wonderful soup. I made enough to feed a small army and took some suggestions of other reviewers as one can rarely have TOO much flavour, right? When I made the roux and the cheese sauce I added garlic and followed the same ingredients I use when making a rich cheese sauce to pour over veggies. Worcestershire sauce and mustard powder, bay leaves, and 'Season All' (souped up salt ;) ) gave it a nice kick. I also did half cauliflower and half broccoli because that's what I wanted to use. My friend brought roasted garlic bread and crusty French and we filled up a big bowl with cubes of bread for dipping in the soup. I could eat this all winter. Thanks!

Fabulous Fudge Chocolate Cake

Reviewed: Dec. 28, 2013
I needed a heavy cake as I wanted to fill it with a decadent fudge filling. This was perfect. It was moist and flavourful and supported the fudge (and a thin layer of raspberry preserves) exactly as I was hoping. I iced it with white chocolate icing and sprinkled crushed candy canes over. It was the piece de la resistance of Christmas dinner. Labour intensive, yes, but it was a special cake for a special occasion and well worth it.

Gingerbread with Lemon Sauce

Reviewed: Oct. 5, 2011
I hesitate to write a review 'cause I did change a few things and I'm SURE it was perfect without the changes, but the reason I am adding this note is to let people they CAN tweak it if they want to and it will still turn out really nicely. I wanted to eat it with as little guilt as possible so I used stevia instead of sugar for the lemon sauce. Not the cake. It has so little sugar it is perfect. Also I didn't microwave anything. I baked the cake for 20 minutes at 350 and it was light and delicious. Another tip is to poke the cake all over with a fork before pouring on the sauce. That way the sauce seeps down in to the cake. MMmmmm. Great recipe. Thanks.

Johnny Appleseed Meatballs

Reviewed: Feb. 19, 2011
Really, really delicious. I left out the egg only because I didn't have one and couldn't be bothered to run to the store. I was worried that they wouldn't hold together, but they did. I also shredded onion while I was shredding the apple and mixed it all together. I am not a stellar cook, so it could just have been me, but it took me an hour to make these with apple chopping, mixing, making the meatballs, browning them, and the making the gravy and simmering. It was worth it.

Pumpkin Muffins II

Reviewed: Oct. 20, 2009
I made them twice with my eight year old daughter and they were VERY very good. Second time I added 1/3 cup of melted butter and did half brown and half white sugar to enhance the autumn pumpkin flavour. Everything else as written. Delicious.

Aunt Norma's Rhubarb Muffins

Reviewed: Oct. 5, 2009
Read all the reviews and made them just as written except I didn't have buttermilk on hand and couldn't shop, so I put 2 tsp of vinegar in a cup of milk and let it set up. Muffins smelled so fabulous and were delicious. Only drawback was I couldn't stop licking the batter.

Ten Minute Enchilada Sauce

Reviewed: Mar. 29, 2008
My favourite all time enchilada sauce. The only time I've had it fail was my own fault as you have to watch it like a hawk when you are browning the flour so it doesn't scorch.

Dip For The Stars

Reviewed: Jan. 22, 2006
Ok, I"m going to give this 5 stars, BUT it was sure helpful to read the feedback from previous makers before I endeavored to create it myself. A) it was absolutely delicious B) it was expensive and C) it was more work than I was expecting. However, all in all I would say that if you have the money and the time it is well worth making. The flavours are distinct and yet blend beautifully. I made it in a rounded old tupperware bowl (full recipe since it was for 25 people at a baby shower) and it was stunning looking too. I put out a butter knife as well as the crackers, etc, so people could cut themselves a wedge.

Succulent Pork Roast

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2006
This is the BEST PORK EVER. I have made it twice and can't rave enough about it. I served it to my parents and sister and they went on and on about how amazing it was. It is so moist and tender and flavourful. The only change I made was to add about 1/3 of a cup of concentrated hot wassail (which was sitting on the back of the stove) to the drippings to make the gravy and it was incredible. The sweetness of the apple cider with the saltiness of the pork and the cherry juice..... Mmmmmmmm.

Tasty Tuna Burgers

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2004
Good recipe! My kids and I enjoyed it. It is tricky to know whether the egg is cooked through, but I wasn't too worried. I like the assortment of tastes together. I didn't have seasoned breadcrumbs as it was one of those nights where the pantry is fairly empty and you are looking for some magic to make with a can of tuna. I used cornflakes crushed instead.

MMmmmmmm. Just what I was looking for. Nothing extraneous. Nothing low fat, or tweaked. Just a lovely bread that celebrates pumpkin.

Crispy Rhubarb Pie

Reviewed: May 19, 2004
I really liked this recipe and it was very straightforward. The reason I gave it 4 stars was because my dad, who is a rhubarb fanatic, thought the topping was too much. I, on the other hand, was left wondering why I have poured milk on cornflakes all these years when brown sugar and melted butter is so much more delicious! :+)

Pineapple Upside-Down Cake II

Reviewed: May 17, 2004
This turned out perfectly! Thanks :) I took some suggestions from the reviews and used a little less butter in the topping and then I used half milk and half pineapple juice for a yummy flavour and moisture in the cake. Kids and I enjoyed it very much.

Gel's Green Beans and Beef

Reviewed: Apr. 21, 2004
What a great idea! Love this recipe AND this website. I find that so often I am just lost for meal ideas and get tired of the things which DO occur to me. This time I typed in ground beef and green beans and this recipe came up. The recipe submitter will probably be appalled to read that I made it, plunked it in a cassarole dish, topped it with tater tots , and baked it for 20 minutes. :+) But my kids LOVED it. Thanks.

Mmmmmmmmm!! This was SO good I can't find the words to say how much I enjoyed it. My kids weren't that keen, but they are little. What do they know? ha ha. THanks for this great recipe. I am hooked.
