My recent discovery of my wheat, milk (casein),gluten, chicken, chocolate, baker's yeast, and brewer's yeast allergies have changed substantially the way I cook. Therefore I take advantage of my interests in food to find new options for my menu.
My favorite things to cook
My favorite things to cook are the recipes in my antique cookbooks, and WWII recipe booklets. I try to make them faithfully, then update them for present palates. Sometimes I make them just for fun.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My favorite family cooking traditions are when all of my aunts, cousins, and my daughter congregate in the kitchen to make holiday meals. We talk, teach, learn and love. It is my favorite thing to do.
My cooking triumphs
My cooking triumphs are not being a stagnant cook, learning to decorate cakes, and remembering how to can veggies and put up fruits and jams.
My cooking tragedies
My tragedies have been many and varied; but the one I never get to live down is a birthday cake I made for my father when I was about 14. It was horrible!! Hard as a rock and bitter, the cake was inedible. The frosting was gooey and drippy. We buried it.: ) I've since gone on to make cakes for many people, as well as many other types of desserts and meals. I haven't killed anyone yet. LOL
