Born and raised in New Orleans, I am definitely not afraid of food (well, maybe the extra pounds that find me when I've been having too much fun in the kitchen are a little scarey.) I'm a natural in the kitchen and started cooking with mama while I was very young.
I was blessed by a legacy of great cooks. My mother's side of the family is Cajun, and her mother seemingly worked miracles in the kitchen. Oh how I remember the succulent stewed rabbit, custard-style bread pudding, and too many other delights to mention here. Mama said there was hardly anything she couldn't cook, with the exception of nutria, which she drew the line and refused to cook when pawpaw showed up with it. Lol! I can't blame her. Anything that looks like a 20 lb. rat with orange teeth would put me off, too.
